Default My 1.9L ITR build - RIP after 1500kms?

The remains of my built B series, this was my first build, with less than favourable results. Forged pistons/rods/cams/vt.
Only ~1500kms on it if i remember correctly.

Not sure what happened exactly, didn't break a retainer, all the springs look fine, keepers intact, timing belt was still in proper tension. When it happened i was just crossed into VTEC in 2nd gear, probably 7,000rpm, and it just locked right up.

Only thing I can think, when i first started the motor the timing belt jumped and the car shut off. I put it back into proper position and re-tensioned the belt and everything was fine. Possibly i bent a valve when that happened and it finally broke?

This thread is largely for curiosity, I already rebuilt, and its back into the car. Id just like to hear some input on what may have happened

well if your belt jumped a couple/several teeth then it most likely took an early dump before you smashed into vtec cant be too sure though...shouldve compression tested after you fixed the belt issue for the first time on start up

what valvetrain were you using out of curiousity??

that wouldve been the ideal thing to do before continuing its a general rule of thumb when instances like that occur glad to hear that youre moving along...

It was a tensioner problem, not a belt jumping problem. The belt looks fine btw. I was running some cheap tensioner, it was always a PITA to get the belt in proper tension. Ive since switched to a honda tensioner on my new build, and the timing belt tensioned properly first try.

I always use oem gaskets, seals, etc. The tensioner was something i overlooked when i made my order from honda, and this other chinese tensioner was just sitting at my shop in the package, so i figured why not. Guess i learned that lesson the hard way.

Did you reuse this head? Oversided valves and custom chamber work?

it could be fixed. it would cost more than a used head though. just boils down to do you have a expensive p&p work done to it
