Default Defroster Question

Hi

I'm kinda new to this, when I turn on the defroster in the front in a cold car and a cold outside I get all my windows foggy zero visibility and so what I do is just turn it off and just open the windows and wipe the front window with a piece off towel until the car warms up.

Heres what I do. I turn on the fan to 1 and the setting is red (hot) all the way and I turn on the defrost button that's it.

Is there a trick to this or my defroster is broken? and the car is a 95 accord

defroster requires 2 things to work

1. A/C operation if outside temp is above 32F
2. Good heat output

in a 5th gen you will definately know when the A/C is on as the compressor puts a good amt of load on the engine........

here's a tip that always works for me.

ac air blowing up your front windshield will clear it faster but will get foggy again fast.

hot heat blowing up your front windshield will clear it slower than the ac but will last longer.

depending on your situation, this is a good tip to determined which type of air to use. for me, sometime in the morning when its foggy and my motor is not warm up yet to produce heat, i just blast the ac to get it as clear as i can and use windshield wipers if needed. but when i have the time and heat, i use heat to clear the windshield.

oh also, dont use your hands or towels to try to wipe and clear the fog. the grease or oils on your hands might make it worse. i use a microfiber and clean the windshield when its not fogged, and i never touch it again or let anybody touch it. when it gets foggy, i just use ac or heat to get it extremely clean and clear. good luck. hope this help.

a/c automatically comes on with the defroster if the ambient temp is above 32F

defroster uses the A/C to trap the moisture out of the air thus clearing the windshield.........

well i do not know which car you are talking about. but all the cars i've been in DOES do what you mention; IF you push the "defroster" button

i guess it's my fault i forgot to mention that my method does not require you to push defroster button. in some car like my lexus where you cannot access the mode to have blower blow on yoru windshield; thus in this situation you must push the defroster, when do so the ac will come on, but i just manual turn the ac off, doing this, change the blower mode in windshield mode, then i proceed in turning on heat or ac depending on situation. but that is just an example of the lexus. all cars are different. in most cars you turn on heat or ac accordingly to situation and turn the vent to blow air at your windshield.
