Default Need advice on, Where to buy and What paint to buy.

I have been looking for paints a lot lately. I have read that PPG is the way to go but heres the deal.

I was looking at PPG on TCPglobal and it was around $600 with clear. Then I looked at DuPont but can't find any prices online. I want a good paint job and keep orange peel to a minimum, but I dont want to break the bank. The car will see some serious track time, which means broken bumpers. So I plan to repaint often.

I also saw that TCPglobal has the "Restoration shop" brand paint that is at a reasonable price. Its $140 for a gallon vs. $315 for PPG. Im trying to keep paint prices under $400 if possible. Also a good place to buy paint online would also help. Thanks!

If a good paint job includes using quality material in your opinion, its not going to be cheap. Your best bet would be to go to a local supplier and bring them some donuts in the morning and butter them up, ask for a good price. Talk to them about cost efficient quality paint and see what they can do for you or what they recommend. Pretty much all the big name paint mfg's have comparable paint lines. Look into some BASF RM paint also. Its like the saying, you get what you pay for.

well, that's how the world is..you cant expect them to hold your hands and walk you thru everything. youll be happy to know they didn;t see you junk that doesnt work.

they are there just to make the sale, most of them is as much as a painter as you are. even if they give you any advice, i would ask someone first before going for it.

I drove 1 hour to the next paint store.
I tell you they are some nice people. The owner of the stores gave me a handfull of tips on how to do and not do. Great thing he did was wrote it all down just incase I forgot.

A lot of the paint companies have two (or more) main refinish lines.

You'll have a lower end line thats good for overall refinishing (all its really designed for). Its a hell of a lot cheaper, though a major factor being the color match on them often isn't up to par, so if you're trying to do only part of a car its not always the best choice.

The upper end line has all the alternate color selection options and effects because it is where the money goes.

If you're gonna paint the whole car and having perfect color match isn't that important, go with an overall line. Dimension, Omni etc.

I bought Omini, just because my car is a beater. Also not willing to bomb a **** load of $$ on expensive paint. Just because my civic isnt worth that much.
