Default anti-theif set-up question

i've notice that's there's been a lot of ef stolen latey even here on the east coast. a possible solution could be to add a Factory immobilizer from like a newer civic or a acura. what i mean is useing a chip key. i'm not sure how they work completly. but if anyone know how it work that' could be a great way with out the chip key the car won't start.

Sounds like an expensive option to hiding a kill switch or two.

While you're at it, why not a retinal scanner?

Anyhow- to be more constructive in this post: go to a local professional key and lock store. Look under locksmith in the phone book. They have similar keys for household/business use. They should be able to tell you everything you want to know, and some of them do automotive work as well.

Don't know how that will prevent a thief from crossing some wires under the dash and bypassing the key, but hey...

What i've done in the past to prevent theft are:

Remove the steering wheel ( i didn't have an airbag back then)
Add a boot ( hey the cops use it to keep you from goin anywhere)
Disconnect or remove the battery
Unplug the Dizzy from the coil or take out a couple spark plug wires
Add a kill switch or two
Car alarm ( this really doesn't help too much, but hey they're annoying)
The Club ( these are a joke, you can pick the lock with a J4 rocker pick or take the lock out with a slide 3 lb slide hammer)

To be honest, if someone is going to steal your car they're going to steal your car. If you want it back, get LoJack.

I think that's a reasonable idea. Rather than pick the ignition they would have to hot-wire it, which takes longer. It probably wouldn't be too hard to install. You would just have to figure out which wires are which.... :my2cents:

I think a kill switch to the ECU power is a lot more practical. A small momentary button hooked up to a high/low beam switching relay common in many cars (Like a normal relay, but stays in that position after power is removed unlike a normal relay). One momentary pulse switches the relay to one position (ECU on), and another momentary pulse switches to the relay to the other position (Hooked to nothing, so ECU off). I recommend this as it seems to be easier to find smaller momentary switches as opposed to on/off switches, thus easier to hide.

the immobilizer does more then alow the thief to hot wire the hot the car will not start without reading the chip in the key. you how you need a bypass for newer car is you go to get a starter put it? well without the bypass the car won't start. so why whould a immobilizer be a good idea? it's more then just changing the key that would be p[oint;ess lol.

The "immobilizer" is more than just the steering column and key switch. It also requires the matching ECU unit that reads the key code.

In other words, you would have to include the ECU from the source car to get it to work.

It's just not reasonable to do.

do the intergra's have immobilizers i mean it wouldn't be too hard if you were to use a k20 either right? and how do you bypass the immonilizer if you put a k20 into an ef??

Your best bet is to hook up a fuel pump cut-off switch so they only get about a few blocks before it dies on the side of the road, instead of on the other side of town, on blocks, on the side of the road. Just go with something that protects your car and thats easy to install.

I do something similar to this, and it is not all that inconvenient. I for one have an alarm....dosent do much, but when I get out of the car I like to take the main relay with me.....thus no fuel pump turn on, I know it controls other things, but it will not allow my car to start I have tried!

Some car "alarm" systems can call your pager or phone. This, combined with a fuel-pump kill switch will hopefully allow you to find the theif when the car runs out of gas, thus giving you the chance to introduce him to the pavement.

You can also turn an unused, unactivated cell phone into a location transmitter. Read this thread to find out how: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread/1694483

Otherwise, some "alam" systems from Africa can electrocute the thief via probes hidden in the seat. If they are not disarmed they stab the bastard in the back and dump your battery into him in about 2 seconds

There is another one that employs blow-torches below the rocker-panels which fry the bastard if the door is unlocked without the system being disarmed.

My vote is for trunk-monkey. By far the most versatile system on the market
