Default What resister to use to turn off the SRS light? (for aftermarket steering wheel)

My friend used a 2 ohms resister (plug in the yellow plug under the steering wheel where normally connected to the air bag) on his 01 Prelude and the SRS light turned off, I tried that resister on my car and it doesn't work.

Does anyone know what ohms to use to turn off that light (btw, I know black tape can covered the light but still. Just curious iof there is a better/easier way to do it.)

thanks,
CS

You can just remove the light, or you can swap it with a burnt out one. However, you should try to disable the airbags if you a using a non airbag equipped wheel. To do this disconnect the SRS connector on the back of the dash (it is the furthest to the right when you are sitting in the drivers seat facing forward), then also be sure to remove the fuse for airbags, from the fusebox which is slightly below and to the left of the steering column. However, I don't condone driving without airbags on public roads.

Did you reset the SRS unit after you put the resistor in? Once there is an abnormailty in the SRS system the light will remain illuminated until the system is reset. This is so that intermittent failures are detected and dealt with. Put the resistor in series and then reset the SRS unit.

I just did this..

The entire process is outlined in section 23 of the helms manual. To do this you need to short the MES connector, which is the yellow connector that clips to the front of the interior fuseblock. Pull it out and short it with a service connector/paperclip and then it goes something like this...

-Ignition off: Short MES connector
-Ignition on: SRS comes on and then goes out. within 4 seconds open connector (remove short)
-SRS light comes on. Within 4 seconds short connector.
-SRS light goes out. Within 4 seconds open connector (remove short).
-SRS light blinks twice and goes off indication sysytem has been reset.

One advantage of NOT doing that is that your passenger will still have an airbag.

Personally, when cage and seats go in SRS system in it's entirety goes out.
