Default Price on Valve cover repair.

How's it going guys.

I currently went into reputable mechanic shops(midas, Meiniki and some in-town mechanic shop) to get a price on a valve cover gasket replacement. (I would most certainly love to do it myself.. but I have broken my arm) And they priced the repair at or around 210$ . Personally, I can't believe the price. I would wait until my arm is healed but I just get tired of leaving oil spots every where.

What do you guys think of this price? I was hoping to get a rough estimate from you guys so I can try to talk them down to a certain (yet legitiment) price. But I have no idea of a good price.

You mean just the 1 gasket that's right below the valve cover?

That's like 10 seconds of work?

Wow! $210!! That is outrageous. The whole valve cover gasket kit is like 20 dollars (new VC gasket, bolt seals, and spark plug well seals). You should be able to change it out in a couple of minutes (even with a broken arm!).

Tell that shop to go shove it!

do these shops have any MINIMUM labor they charge for any given job? Say you bring your car in and right off the start they are going to quote you for 2 hours labor regardless of the job?

Since this is for a V6 (I assume anyway based on name and sig, but you should always include this in main post) I'm not sure what this job requires. I have experience with other V6's but none from Honda so I'm not going to speculate.

you could try going into the regional forums and see if you can't enlist the help of a local HT member to give you a helping hand. Payment may only be a
