Default rsx stock bose stereo system hooked up to an amp

i was wondering if its worth it to hook up a 4 channel amp to our stock bose stereo system with some aftermarket speakers.. would it be worth it or should i just get a aftermarket one like a pioneer or alpine.. also, if i use a different deck, can i still keep my 6 cd changer? thanks

Bose speakers have the amps attached to the speakers. I don't even know if that will work...

So instead of one big amp they have a lot of mini ones. I have talked to some stereo shops about this and they said that when they get someone with a bose system they pretty much have to gut the car to get all the bose wiring out and then rewire it without bose stuff.

That's why I'm glad EP3s didn't come with BOSE systems...

I dont think thats correct. As far as I know the bose system in the rsx has two amps. One is located under the passenger seat for the 4 speakers and the other is located in the trunk connected which is for the bose sub.

I would recommend bypassing the bose system completely. Its come garbage anyway. You basically have to go into the amp under the seat and reroute the wire to bypass the amp. It is fairly easy to do. I will try to find the link later for it, im too lazy right now.

This will allow you to run an aftermarket headunit like any other non-bose car. The harness you would need to use is the 1998+ honda harness preferably metra. This will give you a much cleaner sound from your speakers. The only downfall is that you will loose the function of your stock sub. Even without the sub I still highly recommend this mod. This benifits outweigh the fallbacks.

After bypassing the bose system you can run aftermarket speakers and amps with ease. Hope this helps.

EDIT: here... I was feeling charitable:

No you cannot keep the stock 6 cd changer, you would have to take it out in place for the aftermarket one. Although you will be able to use mp3 cd's which you can put hundreds of songs on a single cd so it equals out. You can probabley put all 6 cd's on one mp3 cd or at least close to. 6 cd changer is not all its cracked up to be trust me. I have not missed mine.

There are ways to run aftermarket amps with your stock headunit but I am not knowledgeable on that subject so I cannot comment on it. I am sure that if you search either here or on other rsx sites, you may be able to find the information you need.

This is purely opinion. If the bass hit a little harder or had a gain control, everyone would be saying it's the best system ever.

But as it is, you can crank the volume and it stays clear. The sound is good and on certain songs (on CD's), the system sounds great.

To the OP....why do you want to replace it so bad?

as far as the stock bose, i think it is good for a stock system, i think they are clear and sound awesome for a stock system. it's no harmon/kardon you find in bmw's but it is def. better than 90% of the stock units out there.

as far as using stock radio with aftermarket amp, it can be done, all you need is a thing called a line out converter. you will tap into the speaker wiring and the converter will convert it into a signal for a rca to be used for the amp.

i wouldn't amp the factory speakers because they are set to a certain amount of watts that they can handle and the bose amps is paired up with the speakers so you don't damage the speakers.

if you want to use an aftermarket amp you will want to go with aftermarket speaker because if you don't then you will blow your speakers and they are a fortune to replace.

yes bose systems do suck in a certain way because if you want aftermarket then you do have to basically rewire the car, but like i have said for stock they are in my opinion the best all around sounding systems from the factory.

i was looking on jl audio's site and they have a new inline gain controller to adjust the factory subs and keep everything stock. you just wire in the gain controller inline with the factory sub amp and it allows you to control the gain. here's a link:

http://mobile.jlaudio.com/prod...d=446

this would make the bose system 10 times better.

Its true, you can crank it all the way and it will still be clear. But then again the system does not really define its high's and low's. It sounds like its just all mids. The bass could have thumped a little harder but nothing a little basslink cant fix. I used to run an alpine cda-9835 w/ bose bypass + an Infinity basslink I and I thought it sounded pretty nice considering what it was.

it all depends on what you want to do if you are going to do all of that then this would be the time to upgrade the headunit as well. if you are going to be running 2 amps then you will def. need the extra rca outputs. keeping the stock headunit and going through the line out converter's, the sound will distort running a sub amp and a 4-channel amp. if you were just running one or the other it wouldn't be bad, but running both will def. take away from the sound quality and why replace all of that and have shitty sound. if you are already set on replacing all the speakers and adding 2 amps, i would say go ahead and replace the headunit as well because you would hate to have put all that money into it to sound good and it sound the same as it does now.

so for 1 amp i'd say you would be ok to keep the factory, if you plan on adding another amp i would get an aftermarket headunit just because of the additional rca outputs for the amps.
