Default Help, I need trans gears made...

I do apoligize as this may be in the wrong thread, I assumed it was good due to it being a non honda-related item.

Unusually enough, I have built a 352 WHP 309 WTQ Ford Escort Zx2, this was dynoyed with problems with boost leaks, exhaust leaks, TB cable not going fully open, and fuel presure droppage issues so not reving to 7K....

Anyway, this car is sickly fast! The problem arizes with the transmission= VERY WEAK gears!

Not too long after I got tuned and made 352 HP I stripped 3rd gear, 3 teeth were missing from it. Well, I assumed it was due to driver error, I had a short shifter and sometimes didnt use the Clutch ( bad habit that I have ) So I grinded 3rd alot.
Well I have the stock shifter in now, and a fresh rebuilt trans, new clutch ( 6 puck unsprung stage 4 Spec clutch)
I Dont grind gears at all now! I put in good Royal purple ATF.

with only 200 miles on the new trans/clutch ( And I had msd set at 4K for a while then I upped it to 5500) on Xmas day after getting of the highway I boosted it in second, slamed 3rd, boosted it and BOOM 3rd is gone. 3rd gear is now like Nuetral there is NOTHING there now.....

Anyway, I assumed this is due to too mutch power ( could as well be driver error again, I should learn to drive)

So here is what im on a search for, someone to make a custom gear for me. Ive tryed to find places and found nothing. Well I did find a place in Autrailia called Par-Engenerring. But they want simp,y too too mutch for anything ( im sure its worth it, i just dont wanan budget it) They want 3800 for a gear set and like 800 for just 3rd gear. In which in my mind I say **** I can build my honda and make it fast and reliable/strong.

My trans is in the G-series family if anyone is familiar with. G5m to be exact. So I assume I can use a gear from a 626/mx3/Probe/ early modle Escape g5m-r

Par-engenerring said there gears are made out of Billet EN36A Heattreated/case hardend.....

Id like to take a stock 3rd gear and find someone with a c&c and made me one.

If anyone is willing to help me out of share info from experience id gladly be appriicative as I dont wanna give up, I mean how oftend do you see a Sleeper 350WHP+ Escort on the road?
Yes I have Honda love, I have an EJ1 and a 93 Lude H22a vtec as well, but this is so very unique.

I have pictures of my setup/car if anyone is interested...

The RR/AX or Welding/Fab forums would probably be better places to ask.

Have you considered finding a gear from a junkyard (if they'll separate) and having it cryo-treated?

It will make it more britte, but it will also make it stronger. Real solution = You bought a 6 puck clutch, learn to use it!

lots of manual trannies use ATF as opposed to manual transmission fluid.

looks like racerstv is the solution, however, he wants to see my gears the blown ones. Although I dont know how to get the bearings off the shafts. I got the case opened. I need to send him the old gears.

Please realise that your transmission may not require ATF, Ford used it to cut down on drag... SRT4 transmissions use ATF as the OEM fill. MOPAR has done tons of testing with 75w-90 gear oil, the power handling capabilities are quite a bit higher with a gear oil that can help spread out the loads on the gear teeth. Why not try a conventional gear oil, if it still shifts okay (thicker fluid), then your gears will appreciate the help. This won't fix a poorly designed gear, but it surely will help keep the gear teeth from galling to death!

eh, I was told many times gear oil is just too thick, However, it is suggested by many to use GM synchromesh. Especially GM synchromesh friction modifyed.

Well, good thing we never raced a ZX2.... oh wait, we did! I wouldn't be so quick to poo poo running a thicker oil. Anyhow, good luck! Let me know when you decide to install the MTX75 that you don't like...

I never said I was agained it, it just seems like too mutch money, work for very little gains as there gears are weak as well. Plus no one to date has found ouyt how to get speedo to work as the zx2 uses VSS the mtx75 doesnt.

Anyway, lets how racersteve is the answer!

ill def keep your suggestion in mind, but right now i wanna get my moneys worth out of this royal purple stuff.

for future note, what kinda of gear lube specifically do you recommend?

Been there...done that....I have one angry customer to say the least that spent about $3k in gears from them. If you like excessive backlash and KABOOM when you put it in gear...then that is the place to go.

I have never heard that, and the Houseman team is very good at taking care of their customers. They are experts and have had many championships under their belt in road race, and drag. I use their parts as well! Their site: http://www.racegearbox.com

Didn't take care of this guy and I speak the 100% truth. Firsthand experience. I used to think they were the greatest and could do anything and took care of their customers but, what happened was pure

The worst part is, I assembled the trans...noticed the backlash was way to excessive. Then sent the assembled shafts back to Canada to make sure it was ok...Was told to run them and that it was fine. Put the trans together even thought I was not comfortable with it. Shipped it to my customer in the east coast. He ran it and KABOOM!! Keep in mind this guy was the current Champion and had a lot at stake. This guy also spent a Sh*t load of money with Houseman as well.

We sent the blown up crap back to them in Canada and he told us it was due to assembly...LOL! The funny part is that I even told him that it would not work because of the excessive backlash and that when it engaged in gear, that slack between the gears will catch up and its gonna shear the teeth. Exactly what it did. But, did he get a set of replacements?? NO!!! Was he offered any kind of help?? NO!!!

Then they had the nerve to ask why our sticker was on the trans? Well because we built it and it came from our facility. It is one way to ID a trans that came from us...DUH? They asked why since it was their 3 gears in the trans. That was pretty gay to even care about that IMO....

The really sh*tty part is, I am the one that recommended the customer to go to them for the initial custom final drive that was close to $2k!!! and then back again to spend another couple grand on 2 custom gears!!

What a slap in the face I tell yah

That is my experience and take it for what it is worth. I don't care how many championships they got or what expertise they have...obviously it wasn't good enough or they just didn't give two sh*ts about us.

I used to believe in that hype too...but, now I think otherwise.

I see where you are coming from BISI but, you are a celebrity in our industry. You are a pioneer and a well respected individual. I am sure he is gonna back you up 100% versus my customer who races on smaller road circuits. He is not likely to burn you like my customer who probably doesn't even own a computer and his experience will not travel to far! LOL! But, I do. I am glad that you have had good success with him. I am just stating my experience so that everyone can see the possiblities of dealing with them....could be good or it could be bad?

Roll the dice baby!
