apparently i just got off the short yellow bus.

I did the same thing so don't feel bad, it goes in between your speed sensor and the gear housing with the power steering lines going to it.

how does it mount? i'm looking at the bottom of the vss and it doesn't look like there is a place to stick that? my mind isn't working lol

LOL. i did the same thing with the same part last month. i changed the transmission and found that on the ground under my car. i was like "wtf is this?" But I figured it out the same way you did.
