A question for all the eg (92-95) civic guys out there
Okay, so Im about to sell my 91 zc, and buy a 92-95 hatch. But my question is about trim levles. Did the eg Si hatch come with a power sunroof? Not a moon roof, but a full on power sinroof? And what else was diffrent other than the motor? Anyone know of a good website that will have ALL the diffrences in trim? Also, Im in canada, not sure if that makes a diffrence. I know sometimes our hondas differ from the states. Im planning on getting one and doing eaither a Gsr or a type R swap if I can get my hands on one. Really the only reason I want an Si is becouse of the power sunroof (if it has one) and the ease of putting a vtec motor into the car thats already wired for it.
Thanks for any help guys.
Thanks for any help guys.
I've heard the Canadian-spec Civics are different from the U.S stuff, so all of what I'll say probably won't be true for you up there.
I'm just going to tell you about our U.S specCX, VX, DX, and Si. I know your CDM CX has like a DX motor or something already:
CX: 70hp 8-valve 1.5L non-VTEC shitbox motor. No tilt, side mouldings, no moonroof, rear drums, 13'' steel wheels, 5-speed only, no rear wiper/washer, 10 gallon gas tank. 1992 model has vinyl seats.
VX: 92hp 1.5L VTEC-E. No tilt, side mouldings, no moonroof, rear drums, 13'' alloy wheels, 5-speed only, no rear wiper/washer, 10 gallon gas tank. Has an 8000rpm tachometer.
DX: 102hp 1.5L non-VTEC. Better tranny for acceleration than the CX/VX because of closer gears and shorter final drive. Tilt column, side moldings, rear drums, 13'' steel wheels, rear washer/wiper, 11.9 gallon gas tank, more tar inside for less sound/road noise. Available automatic. Auto has power steering in U.S, but I've heard CDM DX has power steering as an option even for 5-speed.
Si: 125hp 1.6 VTEC motor. Rear disc brakes. Power sliding moonrof with tilt feature - tilts and slides outside of the car, side moldings, 14'' steelies with covers, clock, rear hatch light, rear washer/wiper, intermittant feature on wipers, cruise control, 9000rpm tachometer, 11.9 gallon gas tank, even more tar than DX for less sound, front swaybar, power steering. In the U.S the Si was the only hatch that came in black. No auto was offered either. 1994-1995 offered ABS.
In the U.S all 1992-1993 Civics had one airbag. 1994-1995 had dual airbags.
Those specs are off the top of my head, so I might have forgotten a few non-important or maybe important details.
And if you want to know the weights of each USDM hatch and WHY they weigh more or less than the other hatches, then check out this thread here:

That should help you decide if you're going on weight alone.

"Made in Canada" isn't the same as the Civic that is actually offered to the Canadian market.
Like the Integras we see here are "Made in Japan" but they certainly aren't the JDM models, you know?
If you live in Canada you get slightly different cars from the U.S.
Like the Canadian version of our 1999-2000 Si coupe is an SiR up there and they got different colors too. They also got an Si coupe from 1992-1995 while we just got a DX and EX.
Dig?

From what I have heard from some Canadian members here, the Canadian CX has the 102hp motor that our USDM DX comes with.
Also, you Canadian guys:
Don't the hatches up there have NO airbags standard? Are they not an option up there? I've seen the CDM steering wheel off a 1992 Civic and it was just like the JDM bag-less wheel.

92 no airbags offered for any of the canadian models = Si got 4 spoke steering with cruise, all others JDM spec non-airbag 3 spoke steering (anyone wants one in dark blue ? $20 + shipping)
93+ got the optional airbags on VX and Si
our EX sedan = LX sedan in US
our EX-V = USDM EX sedan
our Si coupe = USDM EX coupe
also on the same subject canada never got the HF CRX either or honda motor with 8 valves (other then some pre-88 motors)
Hey eg6ajk:
On the Si coupe you guys get don't they have roll-up windows? Our EX coupe has power windows, but I remember years ago some guy from Canada had an Si coupe featured in a few magazines and it had roll up windows - not sure about power locks or not.
I believe the guy's name was Vince and it was a black with yellow stripes Si coupe with a built supercharged D16Z6 shooting nitrous through the Jackson blower. I talked to that guy when he came down for the NOPI show in like 1998 or so, but i didn't really look at his doorlocks.
FYI: His car feauted in a few mags and I rember one of them was like "Bumble Bee Looks, Supercharged Sting!" or something like that.
My memory lets me recall the most unimportant crap.

ok i think b18 solved this but i know i have a 95 cx(eh) and on the door it says honda of canada, but it is tachless and had the 70hp 8valve engine and no options except air bags-standard in us. therefore its is usdm-manufactured in canada. the easiest way to tell if the hatch is CDM is look at the guage cluster-if theres a tach in that cx it is CDM. which makes your hybriding a lot easier- all canadian models come with the si/ex harness- the vtec wires or in the dash harness but not ran to the engine bay. for a DOHC transplant all u need is the knock sensor added. so any canadian model is ready for a vtec so the only thing u need to consider is what trim level u want. the si has the moonroof which u are interested in, but keep in mind that the more options u have the more the car weighs so if u want the best power/weight ratio-lightest body/powerful engine-go for a cx/vx- around 200lbs-correct me on this one guys-lighter than the si, but the si is the nicest of the series-slightly different interior, upgraded stereo, etc.
Here's a model reference for you guys straight from the database I call my brain (plus some Honda sales brochures of the last 10 years)...
92-95 Civics
model - CANADA = US
coupe - Si = EX
coupe - DX = DX
hb - Si = Si
hb - DX = DX
hb - CX = CX
hb - VX = VX
sedan - EX-V = EX
sedan - EX = LX
sedan - LX = DX
96-2000 Civics
model - CANADA = US
coupe - SiR = Si
coupe - Si = EX
coupe - DX = DX
coupe - -- = HX
hb - DX = DX
hb - CX = CX
sedan - EX = EX
sedan - LX = LX
sedan - -- = DX
And yes, 92 Civics had optional driver's side airbags, but in 93 they became standard on the higher trim levels... not sure about the lower models. And 92-95 hatches and coupes had roll-up windows. I don't think ABS was offered either.

Canada is way different with their models
their si is our ex, their siR is our si
also, their SiRs come in more than just red, black, and blue
