GSR motors require the GSR ecu in order to properly operate their secondary butterflys, which active around 3200ish i believe. Without it, the motor will not perform correctly.

I dont think that would have any thing to do with vtec not engaging. The IAB's open at 6000 vtec is at 4500. The only difference would be no IAB and vtec engaging at a different rmp. First for vtec you have to be moving, car warmed up, and throttle position. Probably something as well. Hook up a 12v light inline with the wire to the vtec solenoid. All it is, is a 12v switch. If you still have problems pick up a repair manual. Theres alot about diagnosing vtec problems.

Other way around, IABs at about 3500ish or so. Wihtout them, it feel likes crap when their supposed to be open and are not.

I've got a gsr in my civic. IAB open and 6000. Vtec at 4500. But look at the ecu again for a P number. It has a P then two numbers after that. That will tell you what ecu you have.

Check your wiring, make sure nothing is cut/shorting to ground. Does it throw and CELs? Check you're oil level, get the car up to full operation temperature, with full oil, and no CEL's and smack on it in second full throttle until redline. Does it open? Does your speedo work? Is your tps good?

No i keep the oil full and the only thing that i know of that needs replaced is the IACV. Its an hx model so it was wired for SOHC vtec originally but it has an OBD2 to OBD1 jumper on it and it was wired by a performance shop. And i know its not working because i've had DOHC vtec in MY B16 crx so i know what DOHC vtec sounds/feels like
