I have a 99 V6 Auto Coupe with a hard clunk when it shifts between 1st and 2nd and a slightly lighter clunk between 2nd and 3rd. It also seems to shift at higher RPMs than it used to and seems to take longer to make the shift. The car has 130,000miles.
Anyone have any ideas about what could be wrong? I'm pretty clueless about this car.
I've had the transmission fluid changed a couple of times. It didn't seem to improve it at all.

Ahh.... Your year of an Accord is infamous for these problems
. They tend to fail. I Don't remember what mileage limit honda has on the warrenty or a recall on one of these tranny's... but I know there is one, depending if you fit a certain criteria.
My suggestion is to get it inspected, clunking when shifting could mean various things.. If I were you, i'd take it to a Honda and have them look at it, then ask about the warrenty or any recalls on these transmissions.. Atleast, from what i've heard, they have a lawsuit againts them over this...

Oh... and i'm sure you might find better information if you search on something like this in the forums, I'm pretty sure it's been asked about a few times.
ur tranny is dead. Pony up the dough and get the reman unit from HONDA, do not waste your time with a rebuild..........

Purchased a 1998 V6 accord in Jan 05 with 86K and a blown trans for cheap price. Sold the car in Sept 05 for a 2002 CL type S
Paid Kennedy Transmission $3600 to rebuild it. Had problems right from the start. Unit completely failed 5K after rebuild (wrong clutches installed). Second rebuild failed 4K later (clutch packs came apart). Third rebuild at 100K and I traded the car in for my current ride a 2002 CL type S (should have gotten this car in the first place)
Other things that failed inbetween rebuild were 2-3 shift flare, 1-2 pressure switch, main line pressure switch.
Current car is covered under a 7 year 9 month warranty or 109K miles. Car has 52K on it now.. Car has 2 years 8 months remain on warranty...

I guess I'll just be as easy as possible on it and run it til it dies then buy a remanufactured unit from honda.
Yeu-- any idea on the price of the reman part?

see if HOA will offer some assistance but depending upon dealer it could be between 3-5K total cost. The newer units are pretty solid and that is why I said get it from HONDA
I just checked the Honda site and the only v6 accords that are covered by the warranty extension is the 00-01 model years. I work for a Honda dealer and 9 times out of 10 if you call Honda of America, they will try to give you some assistance with the replacement of the transmission. I am not sure of the number to call but you can check for the number with your local dealer.
