ask the dealer to show you the maint records WHERE they replced the trans. IF they did it they got records of it. and HONDA dealers DO NOT "rebuild" transmissions, they replace them.

Correct. If the auto tranny is bad its pull out the old and stick in a re-man. Hell even some of those are bad right out of the box. The Odyssey is deff. worse then the accord but the accord V6 is pretty bad.

American Honda motors have extended the warranty on specific models starting with 1999. The warranty extesion is for the auto transmission for 109k miles or 7years and 9months which ever comes first.

it starts in 1999 with the Odysseys. 00-01 accord. 02's are being offered goodwill replacement depending on service history and mileage of course.

Ya i used to own a 2000 acura TL, went through hell and back with the stupid transmissions before selling it off for a low price. Honda sucks *** at automatics, from what i read about the accords they forgot to put thread lock on some important bolt so it comes out with vibration and smashes ur transmission. On the TL it was a 3 gear broblem they never fixed it, some suspect it was a bad bearing that overheated the 3rd gear drum causing the clutch material to deteriorate. And oh ya, never rebuild it, most shops do a crap job and u end up paying twice as much as u would one from a junk yard, on my TL the one from the junkyard was much better than the blown rebuilt crap i had for twice as much money.

acutally it's the 2nd gear that overheats and bakes the fluid. There are also spots in the transmission where the transfluid exceeds 315 defrees F and it happens during the 2/3 shift. This in turn causes the clutch pack to toast and then the unit will not shift. other problem cause by loss of hydraulic pressure on forward cluch results in IMMEDIATE shift into 2nd gear no matter how fast you are going. It really isn't a problem for the Type S engine as it maxes out at 80 in second but the CL/TL-p it can over rev your stuff easily of you are above 70 not to mention the immediate decelleration caused by the sudden downshift.

signs that your auto trans is going out.

1. delayed shifting (not to be confused with higher shift points during warm-up) ie a pause between shifts
2. car likes to "pop" out of gear and then goes right back in
3. car starts jerking when acellerating from a slow down (didn't come to a complete stop)
4. you gotta change your fluid 3x within 15K under normal driving (ME)
