any advantage to switching an obd2 car over to an obd1 ECU?

Yeah, i've got this funny little idea that maybe swapping the obd2 computer out for an obd1 in my d16y8 powered EK will gain me a little bit of power.
Is this a funny idea or is there some truth to it?
All i know is, obd1 motors tend to make more power than their updated counterparts..

well i ve head of running a integra ECU (p75 non vtec)
on a non vtec single can will give you nice little kick of some sort...but not sure myself

im using a chipped p28 in my car right now... its very expensive to tune a obd2 ecu vs chipping or tuning a obd1 ecu (whole lot cheaper) ... you can use a obd1 p28 ecu to run alot of motor setups... im not sure if using a non vtec integra ecu in your y8.... you wont have vtec and way different fuel maps... its liable to burn real rich if you use a b18 ecu... but im no expert... just a noob!!! lol

yeah.
I am thinking of just dropping a d16z6 ecu in there. I know the motors are very similar.. but the d16z6 has a lower vtec point i believe.
Not interested in tuning an obd1 ecu.. just thinking of one as a 'bolt on' of sorts.

well if you go with the basic bolt ons i/h/e the p28 will work great and respond to boltons better than your obd2 one... chip it for that lil extra kick youll need... phearable.net is where i bought my chip and they customize the chip to your cars upgrades and certain specs you want too... and its really cheap money wise... dont buy a ebay chip though... most of them cause more harm than good...
just swapping to a virgin obd1 ecu wont do anything. people change to obd1 because they can be chipped and tuned. obd2 ecu's cannot. and you would actually need mods worthy enough to be tuned. i/h/e wont cut it.

it will make some difference... dont expect anything major but some slight improvements... it made my setup more responsive... i think its worth the lil bit of money to do it compared to hondata and such...
I think its sort of a wishing upon a star deal with swapping a stock ECU for another stock ECU and expecting an increase in SAFE power. Tunes computer + Tune = Increase in safe power if your tuner is good. Good luck!

i bet you would see even better gains if you actually had it tuned and not just running off a basemap.

OBD1 is the way to go for tuning, but you'll lose out on emissions from a 1996+ Civic; so you might not be able to pass smog depending on who the Technition is. You can always switch out your ECU when you're going to get that handled however.
