Default Can somebody explain tire sizes for me

What does 205/50/15 and 195/45/15 what is the difference. I know the 15 is the rim size. But like does the first number mean; the tires will be smaller the smaller the number for eg is 195 smaller than the 205???? and what does the middle number mean??? Also what does offset mean?? like the bigger the offset # etc etc ?????????

</TD></TR></TABLE>

205=width of tread in millimeters
50=aspect ratio of tire(the sidewall height of the tire expressed as a percentage of tire width) IE, on this tire, the sidewall height is 50% of the tread width, or 102.5 MM
15= Rim size in inches. I think its funny how everything else on a tire is in Metric, but the rim size is in inches.

The 195/45/15 tire is the same rim size as the 205, but the 195 is a bit narrower and a bit shorter because the aspect ratio is smaller and the tread is narrower.

Offset is how "deep" the rims mating surface(where the lugs bolt through) is from the outer edge of the bead, I believe measured from the out side of the rim.
