What is the gasket behind the oil filter "adapter" called
Ok...the oil filter screws onto an adapter that I assume is connected to an oil cooler right? well that adapter has a gasket between it and the block and I can't find a part number. I used a rubber gasket that was the same size and it stopped the leak for a couple of days...but now the leak is back...like a stuck pig while the motor is running...any help would be appreciated...need to change it out this weekend...the original looked like one of those old school paper/cardboard gaskets...also, it's a pain in the butt to keep the gasket in place while bolting the adapter back in...any suggestions...i was going to stick it in place with a touch or RTV to hold it...?
Is this on an H22? You're not very specific in your post. If so, the original is an o-ring, but they get hard with age. The replacement part is just an oil cooler o-ring. Any Honda dealer should know what you're talking about. It's in the cylinder block/oil pan parts diagram, IIRC.
I use a few dabs of Hondabond to hold the o-ring in place during installation. Don't use RTV that stuff sucks compared to Hondabond.

Just go to the dealer and ask for an oil cooler O-Ring. It's actually a round ring, not flat. It just flattens out when installed and gets old.
I had the same terrible leak and I didn't want to bother trying to get it on so I had the shop do it for cheap :D
