tranny swap? info??? help??
i threw out the tranny in my 88 std hatch. looking for another to swap out to get me around in the meantime while i wait for the income tax check to get anothe civic. anywayz i have a few questions i need answered befor i purchase a tranny.
1. speed sensor? i have the cable. if i got one that uses the VSS is it a simple plug the cable in and go or will it not work at all?
2.Spline numbers? not to sure what that means but my hatch is bone stock D15b2 with the Si tranny that went out.
3.Can i use any D-series tranny or do i have to stick with my production year?
please help guys. i miss driving my hatch
also any u guys know of some legit places to get a tranny for my hatch. ive done a lil reasearch and of course ebay, just looking for some more tips. thnx

You can use any L3 (88-91 Civic/CRX) transmission on there, but you'll need one from an 88 if you want to use your stock flywheel.
The spline numbers refer to the number of splines on the mainshaft of the transmission; 88 L# transmissions have 21, 89-91 have 20.
Your axles will work just fine as well as the VSS, provided you get an 88 L3 trans.
So, in all, you should get an 88 Si, DX or STD trans so that you can use your existing parts.

thnx for the tip but i dont have a VSS. i still use the speed sensor cable. i wanted to know if i get a tranny with a VSS, can i just replace the electronic sensor with my cable sensor?
