I have a 2000 Accord ex 4 cyl and have been told that my SRS control box needs to be replaced by my machanic. Light is on all the time. I looked up the replacement part using my VIN. It calls for part no.77960-s84-a93. Here is my delima. First off I do not know exactly where the box is located in the vehicle. Next can I us a replacement box for the same year Accord but with a different part number? I would hate to purcase one and find out it is incomaptable.

The unit is located behind the center console closer to the firewall, but mounted to the floor on top of the "tunnel". And yes, you should use one that matches the part number or one that supersedes. Some vary from year to year and will still cause the light to come on.
