I was just wondering on what kind of motor oil would be good for our type of cars. I have a 2.2 liter VTEC Motor and have 146,000 miles on it. I keep hearing everyone tell me different types of oils so I want to find out from the Honda experts out there on what is the best motor oil for my car.
Thank You
Thank You
On my Honda's I've always used Honda 5w30 and Honda oil filters.

I've used all kinds of 5w30 for my 96 EX 6cyl 210,000. Just switch to Mobil 1. I find it hard to stick to 3k to 5k miles changing period, especially during winters. That's reason for my switching. I've read reports that Mobil 1 is good up to at least 10k miles.
I just use the cheapest non-store brand oil and change it every 3.5k miles. I think I use Shell or one of those similar oils. Regular oil changes is the key.
Has there been reports on the longevity of engine from using different oils?
I have given up on the oil discussion as well. I just make sure I change it every 3,500 miles.

depends where u live, first off. if u live in so cal i don't think u have to worry about the weight and the cold starts as much as most of us here. any 5w-30 will do the trick at 146k, yeah just don't buy the wal-mart stuff. i never heard of anyone having a problem with a honda engine that was maintained, however i have heard and read of numerous tranny (auto) issues on these cars
First of all 5th gen Accords have solid automatic transmissions. So don't worry about that. The one you have to worry is the 6th gens..
I use any synthetic. Here is the order from LOVED to It's an synthetic oil...
-Quaker State Full Synthetic
-Mobil 1 Full syn
-Valvoline full syn
I did feel engine run smoother with Q.

Castrol GTX. I'd recommend the high mileage blend for you.
I refuse to use synthetic because they haven't made a filter that can last as long as the oil, and if I'm just going to change the filter I might as well do the oil too. Also, it's not a good idea to drive 10,000 miles without checking your systems.

I use either Castrol GTX high mileage or Valvoline Max Life 5W30, depending on which Walmart has in stock in 5 qt jugs. 195K and counting on my 98 coupe 5MT. Started using high mileage about 120K and noticed the valves getting quieter and the engine running smoother. Haven't switched back.
I've read somehwere it's not good to switch to synthetic on an old car but don't know how true that is.
I do use Castrol or Valvoline full syn with Purolator Pure One filters on my 04 6MT.
As mentioned earlier, the key is changing every 3750. I just do it regularly on multiples of the odometer.

you should have searched first on this one. this is a very opinionated topic. its a matter of preference and budget.
I just changed my oil today to Pennzoil Full Synthetic,
Nope. I reccomend Quaker state FULL synthetic. (Cuz I don't want to spend so much $$ on full synthetic)
I use Bosch Filter. Uses Filtech technology. I think Honda used to do the same, but not anymore.

i used royal purple 5w30 & hamp synergy oil filters for about 3-4 months. then when i saw the filter action of the hamp i switched to the oem honda filter (still on 5w30 royal purple) no complaints. price is a killer though
I have 211,000 miles on my accord with no valve adjustments.
It runs & idles perfectly.
For the last 80k miles, I've been using: (drum roll)
Chevron Supreme 10w30 from Costco
+
Purolator/Proline oil filters from Pepboys
This combo is highly rated and so utterly cost-effective.
Before that, I was using Valvoline + FRAM or whatever filter the mechanic through on there. I noticed more harshness.
The Purolator/Proline filters are very highly rated and so is Chevron Supreme. When I switched to Purolator for the first time, my engine idle quieted down noticeably.
$7 dollar oil changes are great.

Please tell me you at least checked the valve clearances and they just didn't need adjusting...
