OBD III scan tool
out of curiousity, how do you guys diagnose your obd III ecu's?
I've poked around the net and I can't seem to find a scan tool that can read OBD III.
I see that snap-on has something that can scan for OBD III codes but at well over $1k for the tool itself plus the wires and plugs that cost extra it gets quite pricey.
How are you guys doing it or are you not fixing your own cars?

I'm confused.... when i looked up K-Pro I found a link to the hondata website for a flashable ECU and not necessarily a scan tool.
I'm in the market to purchase a scan tool that is reasonably priced so i can check people's MIL codes on their cars.
I help fix a lot of hondas but after 2001 + my existing scan tool can't seem to pick up the codes.....

It is still obdII it is just more complex and there are more systems with some CAN. an OBDII scanner should give most pgm-fi codes, but there are other systems it wont read and data streams. Some of the systems are PGM-FI, ABS/TCS/VSA, immobilizer, SRS, body electric...

ah I wasn't sure if it was officially deemed as OBD III.
So what scan tool is worth buying to read the codes? I would very much prefer to NOT have to use a laptop.
I currently use a Equus branded scan tool that I purchased like 8 years ago and it isn't USB upgradable/flashable.
If I were to purchase a new scan tool i would probably buy another Equus scanner unless someone here suggests otherwise.
thanks!

Well to be able to access all of hondas systems you would at least need a H.I.M. or an HDS. I have a Snap-on Solis and it does not even come close to access all of Hondas systems, just the main OBDII PGMFI.
