4.9 final drive in ls tranny pros and cons
hey i have an ls/vtec teg and contemplating getting a 4.9 final drive installed i have heard a few diff things about this swap wanted to know how 5th gear would do on say interstate would it be revving high at say 80 90 mph or would it be low at higher speeds
I had this done on a track car, you will be running much higher Rpms on the freeway then normal. Im guessing add about 2k to what you are runnin now for example if you are runnin 5000k at 90 mph you will be runnin 7000k at 90 mph, thats not an accurate guess, but I think it's about right.
a very knowledgable mechnic friend of mine told me if i can find the 5th gear from say a calif spec low emissions teg which has a lower gear ratio with the 4.9 final drive it would reverse the effect as you stated what do you think

No such thing. There is no special low emmisions/california model integra. The LS 5th gear is already the tallest integra 5th gear you can get.
Anyway, at 80mph the stock LS trans with 4.266 final drive is turning ~3490rpm.
80mph with an LS trans and 4.92 final drive is turning ~4029 rpm.
That's about on par with a GSR, so its no biggie.
