Default Cylinder bore & hone question

Im finally working on my B16 and I'm working on the block. I took it into a local machine shop (actionautoparts.net) and they wont bore it out 40 over unless I sleeve it. I understand what he's saying but what is recommended bore limit before having it sleeved..for an occasional race on the highway and romp on the engine type driver?

Thanks for any input.

If you plan on making any type of power on this motor it is safer to sleeve the block. Even going with a simple flanged sleeve will be safer than trying to bore out .040 of a stock block. This will make the stock liner extremely thin.

x2, and any larger i would defintely get the block sleeved and your options are limited to aftermarket pistons/rings but on the plus side you can always build a b20 bottom-end
