Default GSR Head with B16 Block

One of my buddys was talking to me about this combo. I tried to research it but found hardly anything about the topic. From what he was saying if i use a b16 bottom end with gsr internals and a ls crank it would pretty much be a 1.9? I am afraid to do this becuase there isnt much information about it compared to the ls/vtec. I plan to do everything but sleeve and boring and boost later, but any input would be greatly appricated. Thanks Erik.

B16A blocks are shorter than B18C# and B16B blocks. I'll guess that the longer stroke internals in a B16A block would not work.

I'd do a b16 head and gsr block.....poor man type r. This chick up here in Bellevue owns a del sol with that set up and kept up pretty evenly wit my somewhat built ls vtec.

Yeah thats what my buddy is in the process of doing right now, the reason for asking about the GSR head is because he is giving me a really good deal on it.

So does anyone know anything about this setup? I learned that the b16a block is shorter about 7-8mm.

This means if you use a 89mm crank... the top of your pistons will stick out of your block about 4-6mm.

I can't think of who does it... but there is a company that will add a piece to the top of your block to make the cylinders taller.

Ask in the natural aspiration forum.

I can always go with a b16b block too though, i think its the same. As far as putting gsr internals and an ls crank in the b16 would it be worth it?

yeah true but I also want the torque from the ls too, and b18b block go cheap all day long, so once i put the money into ls/vtec it will be the same as buying a GSR block prolly.

There were some debates on another forum about the gsr block and ls block. I suppose the displacement on the Ls block is a bit bigger, but the 89mm isn't as rev friendly as the 87mm gsr block. Again, this is what I was reading about and I'm not 100% true if it's correct or not.

No your right, and the reason Ls motors blow is because dumb kids rev it to 9k on stock rods... APR rods for about 100 bucks or so solve that problem. You can build a lsvtec for like 1900 or less if you have a GSR head. The price includes Tuning in most places, a b16 lsd tranny, oil kit, pumps, belts, etc. Its a good package.
