steering locked...2000 Honda Accord
Last night I got into my 2000 Honda Accord and I could not start my car because the steering wheel was locked. I pulled and tugged on my wheel for 10 minutes..and it just would not allow me to turn the ignition key in any direction. My boyfriend returned to my car several hours later. At first (even with great strength) he did the same as me...could not get the ignition key to turn because the wheel was in a position that it would not unlock. He got out of the car and tried
to rock the car back and forward alittle...then got back into the car and tried the wheel again. After about 1 minute the ignition key worked...car started..and all was well.
Is this a problem with Honda Accords?? I've had a minor problem with this in the past...but not to this extreme. Sometimes it just took a few good tugs on the wheel and I could start the car. But this time...10 minutes and it would not budge.
Is there a way to fix this...or is this the norm? I suppose I have learned my lesson that when I stop the car I should have steering wheel just straight.

It happens if you **** the wheel to the side after turning it off, sometimes you have to jiggle it to the right or left before it lets you put the key in the ignition and once it's started it'll free itself.
It's possible you may have over turned it after the car was off making it really hard to turn the key.
You *can* disable the feature - there was a guy who had his completely locked up with no luck to get it working, he disassembled the wheel and drilled out the piece that locks it.

Maybe your key is getting old. Mine does it sometimes, but my key is a little worn. I jiggle it up and down and eventually it turns. I think the key is not engaging the lock enough to turn it. I want to get the dealer to cut me a new key instead of copying this old key.
This is just my theory. Not sure if it might be the solution or not.

i think this is a good suggestion. my accord does the same thing, but the key's worn out, my last two accords were the same way.
