Default Springs Shocks Struts

I've been doing a lot of reading on lowering and have the basic jist that if you lower with springs (I'm looking at some -1.3" Tein springs- which is a perfect drop for me) you should also upgrade to aftermarket shocks and struts. Is this the conventional wisdom? Or does anyone disagree?
That being the case I can't find a good selection on after market shocks and struts that would be a good fit with the Teins. Does anyone have a good recomendations?

I recommend that you tell us what car you have, how much money you're looking to spend, and what you intend to do with the car.

sorry 'bout that... 2005 Honda Civic EX... I really don't want to spend more than 300-500 bucks and looking for a -1.0 to -1.4" drop... I have some 17" rims on the way as well. I want a drop that gives a better look and noticable performance gain without giving up daily driver characteristics.

any car benefits from BETTER shocks.

if youre just getting tein S techs, and you dont want to spend the money on decent shocks, then it should be ok if you dont expect anything more than a bit of a drop.

just dont think that replacing your stock shocks with tokico blues or kyb GR2 is going to be beneficial. they suck and are not worth the money.

i think illuminas are a great value and worth buying paired with nearly any conventional spring.

And the best are Koni yellows, or Bilstein if you can find some to fit your car.

That's way too general to be an accurate statement. "Best" for what?

Does that $300-500 include shocks and springs?

If you don't really want to spend money on shocks, you could pair Tein springs on stock shocks.

Koni and Bilstein:
Best for build quality
Best for longevity
Best for dynamic behaviour
Best for consistency
Best for rebuildability
Best for versatility
Best for engineering integrity
Best for reputation
Best for selection as OE on numerous top end racing, sports and luxury cars
Best for value (what you pay for what you get)
But NOT best for purchase price

I think that covers it. There are others, such as Penske and Ohlins and maybe a few others, all specialist racing damper manufacturers. Koni and Bilstien are top of the tree for readily available road car applications, and up there for racing dampers too.
