buy a rsx or keep the em1 and turbo it?
i am thinking about buying a 06 rsx-s. it only has 10k on the odometer and is in perfect condition. black with everything completely stock. the local honda dealer is asking 21990 for it but i talked them down to 19000.
i currently drive a 00 em1. if i kept it i am going to go peakboost turbo and do misc. other things that would total around 8k.
i am a college kid paying for college on his own working full time to do it. i need something reliable cause i don't have 2 cars and can't afford for my car to break down cause i can't go without it. if i don't have a car i can't go to work and i can't make money to pay for school.
so with all this being said, which would you go with? rsx-s or em1?

If the em1 was basically stock, I would tell you to stick with that given your current situation. You don't want to worry about paying for a car on top of your school. You're in college, keep the car basic until you graduate and earn some money.
its pretty much stock, the only thing done to it is header and exhaust, both of which need to be replaced. and suspension. thats it. stock wheels, even stock air box. but yea just seeing if there were people who could give some insight. if anyone else has any past experiences if they regret it or not.
i have 103k on mine and if i kept it i would have to do the maintenance pretty soon, as in the timing belt and water pump and if i was doing all of that i would do ahead and replace the clutch for an aftermarket cause i would be boosting and i would probably upgrade to hasport mounts on top of the turbo kit and i would go ahead and respray the car to get all the blemishes out of the paint and all the rock chips off of it. so like i said i would be pouring money into over the next 6months. and yes i still owe money on the car but i could probably sell it for more than i owe, if not at least the payoff on the loan.
Hey i'm in college and work full time and drive a now turbo'ed ep3 it was supercharged but traded for the turbo kit. As long as you know you can still get to school and work go for the turbo. But then there are time when **** gose wrong and your stuck like today for me, lol. It's 30 degrees outside and I had to take my sv650 to work b/c my ep3 has run into a problem on the turbo install. SO just think about things like that.
1: Do the maintenance (water pump and timing belt)
2: Leave everything else alone
3: Go to class
4: Make straight A's
5: Graduate
6: Get settled in a career job
7: Buy a newer car
8: Invest and prepare for retirement

I agree. Don't drop a wad on a car until you are out of college. Nothing worse that having to pick up more hours at a job just to pay for a car.
The em1 will be reliable. Just do the maintenance items and drive it. It'll still be worth good money when you graduate.

my 2 cents-
1. sounds like you need something reliable and cheap...
A. Stick with the EM1- and don't mod it anymore until you have a second car.
2. if you want something that looks good, and has power to back it up, and reliable...
a. Sell the EM1 outright, and get that resale value while you can! (BEFORE Heavily Modifying!)
b. buy an older rsx-s with low miles for a hell of a lot cheaper than 19K!
if it were me, i'd go option 2.a. but then take that money and get an older rusty $1000 civic beater-
no payment, still reliable and cheap to repair-
a full time -working- college kid- should not have to worry about being fast!

the thing is i have 3000 to put down or i would use that money to fix mine up and turbo it. so thats where i am at right now. it sux having the honda itch.
yo man i am also a college student and i just got an 02 rsx-s. it was only 14 out the door w/ 50K miles.
but after selling my old car plus money i saved my payments are only 125 a month for 4 years.
and with little bolt ons the car is awesome and reliable.

I still think both of your poll choices suck, so I added a new one
Seriously though, even a 100K mile EM1 is a better car than 80% of college students have (maybe more), and since you are college-age you couldn't have had it for too long anyways.
On an RSX forum we are telling you to keep what you have and make it reliable. That should tell you something. And unless you want to miss classes due to transportation issues, stay away from an aftermarket turbo, ok?

yea i have had it for 2 years. when i was in the market for a new car then i could have gotten an rsx for like 19000 with only 2k miles on it black almost the same exact car that is for sale now. but back then i wasn't making as much and i had only been at my job for like 2months. now i have a better job makin 900 every 2 weeks after taxes and i have been here a year come march. plus every month i have a chance at a 300 dollar bonus. so that makes it almost 2000k a month after taxes so financially i think i would be fine. so now that i have found the car i wanted in the first place i can afford it but i don't know what i want more.
like i said before i hate loving honda's, but the good thing is no matter which one you have it will love you back.

Schools the reason I'm trying to unload a few of my cars. I thought I would have no problem going to school and working, but after a few semesters I'm just tired of doing it. I did the same thing, bought a used Type-s, then bought a turbo kit for it. Now I'm trying to sell both and just keep my accord which is paid off. Yes the Honda Itch sucks, but being broke and hustling around to work while taking 20 credits is way worse. Keep your Civic, do the maintenance work and get straight A's. The first 2 semesters I was a 3.5 student then last summer I bought the Type-s and started working while in school and I dropped down to a 3.1 last Fall. Now I'm ready to sell.
Everyone handles things different but that's my .2 on the situation.

thanks for the input man, its good to hear from people's past decisions so i can make a good one. thanks again and anymore input is greatly appreciated.
That's not true. You can DD on low boost with a good build and a good tune and have your car be very reliable. It's all about being responsible with your car and how you build and drive it. I've seen plenty of people boost and daily drive and have no problems. It can be done.
I put over 20k on my turbo eg without a problem running 10psi. I ran my supercharged ep3 for almost 10k with no problem. And now I'm running a turbo on my ep3 and no problem. It's all how you set it up. You cheap out and you get bad results. Be a baller.
how big of a difference is the Turbo you chose, over the supercharger?
(and was it worth all the extra time and money, or was it a planned build?)
Thanks

The supercharger is far better for things like auto-xing and around town. The tq it give is really nice b/c it's down low and mid power. The turbo on the other hand is nice b/c it gives me the top end i like but is more of a pain when it comes to up keep. Oil lines, heat, and all other sorts of things. As far as the build and money spent, the turbo will run you more and cost more to take car of and the s/c is bolt on and gives you no problems i.e. overboost, boost creep, or boost spikes. None of the cars i have turned in to f.i. have been built, just bolt on kits. So to me they both have there up's and down's. but i'm a sucker for a greddy type s bov.
