Default Valve lash adjustment questions

I've got just a few questions here about this. I know how to set each cylinder for TDC to adjust the valves for that cylinder, so that's not a problem. I also know the engine has to be completely cold, as in not run for 8 hours or so. My only question is what Honda means by "slight drag." I've used feeler gauges before, but it seems like every manufacturer has different ideas about it. I figured slight drag would be when you were inserting and removing the feeler gauge you would just barely be able to feel it drag. What are your guys' opinions on what "slight drag" should be?

Consider how thin the gauge is. You're trying to decide at what point it feels like the gauge thickness is basically equal to the clearance. Simply put, there should be some resistance to sliding it back and forth, but if the gauge bends while trying to stick it under the cam then the adjusting screw needs loosened a bit. You're also just over-thinking it.

just remember that the adjustment isn't precise... its like 18-22, so if you use a 20, just use your imagination.

it isn't as complicated as it seems, and you should be able to figure it out once you get going.

just make sure your feeler guage(s) isn't rusted, and always double check when you're done.

Yea, I figured I was just over-thinking it. When you say that you're trying to decide at what point the gauge thickness is the clearance that makes it easier and gives you a better idea of "slight drag." I guess I just need to stop over-thinking.

i just did mine last weekend, here's what i did. the spec for intake was .006-.007 inches, so i set it so that the .007 feeler wouldn't fit, but the .006 feeler would fit without difficulty. sounds way better now, i guess sitting on a shelf for a few years will cause stuff to come out of adjustment.
