Default How To: Petsmart Bumpstops

Bumpstops from Honda: $20 each
Autozone bumpstops: Non exsistant
Petsmart bumpstops: $12/4

While putting my Koni\GC's on I noticed my stock bumpstops crumbled and fell away, most likely from the track events I drove on stock suspension. When I considered my options I decided a little creativity was in order, so after brainstorming with a friend we came up with dog chews. One trip to Petsmart later, I had these:

They feel identical to bumpstop material, and are the right dimentions. First, I clipped 1" pieces off the ends. I found it easier to drill a hole, and then use heavy wire cutters to cut around:

Cut to about 1":

I used a 1/2" drill bit to ream it out maybe 1/16". In order to effectively ream with a drill bit that was too small, I made the hole smaller:

After that, they should fit on the shock shaft:

And just for fun:

So there you go, all new bumpstops for $12. I was also considering filling dixie cups with window weld, but it would have taken too long to cure and I'm not sure the longevity of poly.

You can also use the rubber(or poly) from swaybar endlinks from a big american car. They are really cheap at autozone.

Thats a good idea too, probably would fit a little better

I drove it around a little last night and today and because i forgot to tighten the set screw on the spring perch, I was slammed There is a very good chance I was on the bumpstops because they were pushed all the way up, and they're still all there. So far they're holding up. I just wish I could get my front to raise up a little more, I'm going for a stock ride height and I'm having to compress the spring with he pearch to get it to go anyhigher.

</TD></TR></TABLE>hahaha thats genius! if i were you, i would look for the black rubber that kong sells. i think its the strongest of all the materials they use and i can vouche for that!! my 75 lbs pitt was able to chew any damn toy i threw at him and some dry wall, carpet, jeans, and even metal. but i bought a kong ball (the black one) and that thing never even dimpled! lasted long enough for me to lose it.
EDIT: how about using four of these?? http://www.doggy-gifts.com/s.nl/it.A/id.2697/.f

I saw those, but they were like $10/each. Plus the rubber was like indestructable, and I figured you wanted bumpstops to give some.

Quick update: after almost 3 hours on track, bumpstops are still intact.
