Default 02-04 Type R tranny direct fit w/ 02-04 Type S motor?

I'm just wondering if I can put a 02-04 Type R transmission onto a 02-04 Type-S motor? Will be a direct fit or will I need a whole swap, I heard there the same.

It should bolt right up.

What is the benefit of the type-r tranny, is it just the lsd or is there more to it than that?

Does anyone have any track times before and after the tranny swap? I am seriously thinking about doing a MILD N/A build and this would be inlcluded in my list of mods...

Nice, I also hear the Type R tranny doesn't have bad gear grinds because it's race built. So I heard.

thanks for that chart.

Does anyone know where you can by the type r tranny all its own without a complete motor swap?! Because i was looking at the price for the LSD and how much it costs to have the sync rows redone and it seems like a better idea to by the type r tranny and call it a day.

I'd rather do the LSD swap into the a2 tranny and doing the synchros..it's cheaper. It's not that difficult unless you've never done it. They go together like legos.

Well if there like legos then i got it! I dont think i would like to work on something as delicate and easy to mess up as a transmission so i would definitely have a professional do it. Do you know about how much it would cost to have the sync rows redone by honda/acura? When i asked, it was when my car was still under warranty and i was complaing about 2-3 gear grinds. They test drove and told me they couldn't replicate the problem in fourth gear. I flipped because that wasn't either of the two gears i was talking about. The guys looked dumb struck and then came back at me with, your motor mounts are after market and would have voided your warranty anyway. So i asked him how much a sync row job would be and he promptly replied with "about $1600". I looked at him like he was crazy, told him i would change the tranny fluid and call it a day. After I changed the tranny fluid, the problem was eased quit a bit, for about 5,000 miles and now its starting to go back to what it was. So is $1600 about right or was he talking out of his ***.

I changed mine to the DC5 LSD and had no problems.. then again i'm not mechaniclly illiterate. Sounds about right for Acura to change the synchros. Aftermarket motor mounts has no way into messing up the tranny. i think they are lazy and trying to find a way out of not doing it. Tell them if it voids the warranty then prove what it voids. If they give you ****.. you can always tell them "I'll be glad to talk to a consumer lawyer for not fullfillng a factory warranty job as aftermarket motor mounts have nothing to do with my transmission.". Usually when you threaten them with a lawyer they rethink what they say and back down.

Well no im at 53000 miles so my warranty is voided regardless, this was a few months ago. As far as the LSD goes, does it just bolt in or are there other modifications that need to be done?

DC5_lov3r:
ur welcome for the chart. and yes the type-r tranny is race built.

DC5mike:
u can try places like passwordjdm or hmotorsonline. i would suggest calling them and see if its obtainable. i've gotten a couple things from both of them that they dont sell on their site.

it's not a "bolt right in" per say but it does go in with no mods. If any mods would be new bearings or transferring bearings over to the LSD from the old dif.
