Default 3.2 motor reliability

So A local dealer has a 00 3.2 TL for sale, its got 118k miles. How have these engines been with higher miles? I am thinking this car could get me through the next couple years provided it can handle another 30-45 thousand miles...Let me know what the verdict is..

Its the 5 speed auto trannies that are problematic on those, not the engines.

engine will easily go 400K+ as long as you change the oil

the auto is a POS and that year TL was the first to get the 225 HP 3.2L so it's alright in the power delivery dept........i say save your cash and opt for a TL type S..........

The engines are great. They are rather bulletproof as long as you keep oil in them; the only common problems are with the mounts, EGR ports, catalytic converters, and alternators.

The transmissions, on the other hand, are very bad - and with 118,000 miles, that one is beyond the extended transmission warranty. Ask if the trans has ever been replaced; a "yes" answer is a good thing. You may or may not have a problem with the trans, but be aware that a remanufactured unit from Honda will run at least $1600 plus installation labor.
