Operating Temp?
the car is a 91 crx si w/b16,
lately my car has been acting funny and been getting shitty millage, the last couple of weeks has been kinda of cold around 30*, it usually takes a good 15-20 minutes wile driving to get the car fully warmed up after it sits 5 min when i first crank her up, by that time im already close to my destination.... sometimes i will be driving at operating temp then all of the sudden the needle will shot all the way to cold, then of course the ecu will give it more fuel, that what i have been thinking why i have been getting bad mileage, so my ? is what would cause the the motor to go back thinking its cold when it was already at operating temp....
any help would be nice....

It's a cheap and easy fix. Why not try replacing it first?

You can use a thermostat from any b16.
So you can ask for a 99-00 civic si or del sol with dohc vtec if you go to a Honda dealership or you can also use a t-stat from a 92-93 integra GSR if you go to Acura. The Integra has a b17a which is essentially a factory stroked b16a.

Maybe you can ask for that in Canada, but we never had that model in the States.

.... sometimes i will be driving at operating temp then all of the sudden the needle will shot all the way to cold </TD></TR></TABLE>
THIS SOUNDS LIKE AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM
The head has two coolant temp sensors.
1) One is for the temp guage only, it is a single-wire sensor in the head, under the distributor. It feeds coolant temp signal to the guage and only to the guage.
2) There is a two-wire sensor in the same location(green and red wires) and this sensor is the one that sends coolant temp signal to the ecu.
Alright now that we have that straightened out.........
From what you said, it sounds like the temp GUAGE is fluctuating irregularly. As i explained, the temp guage is controlled by its own sensor, the single-wire sensor which sends signal to the temp guage. check this circut.
(If the 2-wire coolant temp sensor was sending a bad signal to the ecu, it would likely trigger a check engine light. also if the 2 wire coolant temp sensor went all the way cold it would not allow you to engage VTEC......something to think about.)
(when my 2 wire coolant temp sensor went bad, my car was blowing smoke it was running so rich.)
