bolt in cages
hey guys, I plan on doing usually 3 track events a season...now are the bolt in roll cages any good? Im looking at a 4 point one, its like 400 bucks. It would allow me to run a racing harness as well which is kinda good imo. I know the best is a weld in, but Its also a DD grocery getter...your thoughts please.
Daily driver I would either:
A)Bolt-in 4 pt so you can bolt it in whenever you need it. I wouldn't drive around with it.
B)Not even worry about it and just use stock seatbelts for now, see if you actually need it. If you feel like you really need it and want it for safety I'd go for the 6pt then because if you where to roll over the part of the car I would be most worried about collapsing over me is the part above my head and just a roll bar isn't going to do much if the roll over was severe and caused you to land on the roof. If you're going to be strapped it's going to make matters worse when the roof collapses since you won't be able to move very much.
Hit the search function, type in Roll bar or Roll Cage, or Autopower, select Archived Posts and look through some of those links, there's tons of info in here that will allow you to make an educated decision about it. There's also a link in here of a EG that rolled over, it was pretty bad and it had an Autopower 4pt. The guy got injured but it did it's job and held the part of the roof that it was up against. The rest of the roof towards the front windshield collapsed pretty bad.

i really dont think you need a roll bar or cage for 3 track events a year personally unless its required by your sanctioning body. however if you must.. look into kirk racing or autopower 4pt roll bar.

I think he means 3 in summer, 3 in winter, 3 in fall... etc. Still I would wait untill I have gone to the track for an event or two before I did anything so I'd have a better idea of what I need.
If you must have one, a 4-pt would be easier to deal with in your DD, but a 6-pt would provide better protection at the track if something where to happen.

I, along with several other people run 6pt cages in our daily drivin cars. What is the big deal with them not being recommended for daily drivin?
Sure, you might get a few weird looks while heading to your local walmart with a roll cage in your car, but who gives a ****. If your DD is also your track car, build the car like its a track car and daily drive it.

What they meant was. If you ever got into an accident on the public road without a helmet.

that car went of a cliff. it doesnt matter that a cage may or may not have saved the passangers from injury. thats something that should not happen on the street.
at the track, you wont go off a cliff. so a rollbar will surfice.

I don't think it matters if it's 2 events per year or 200.
When things go wrong it may be you first or your 332-nd event, and a 4pt doesn't do any good to the front of the car where the driver sits.
The danger of a daily accident and contact with the cage without helmet is very real, but to tell you the truth, i daily drive with my bucket seat and my racing harness almost tight, so i cannot move a lot. Those are just a few of the compromises that a man has to do with only one car.
so if you ask me, no cage or 6pt with door bars.
btw, that look in people's eyes when they see the racing gear and you drive away like a granny
just show them you can be a racer and a calm gentleman

That EG hatch rolled alot, that kid in the pass seat is handicapted now but he is still doing strong. They live very close to me. And they were not wearing a helmet. they were backroading
IMO a roll bar would be good for a normal track day/auto x/ time trials. its safer that not having nothing and rolling over at an event...

Well, my thought is that in an accident, wouldnt head trauma be likely anyway with contact between the window, pillars, etc, even without a rollbar or cage?
you mean on the street? well if you have a cage you really shouldn't be wearing a stock belt you know
and those bars should be padded
Oh yes dude , if you get into an accident without anything expect head ,neck, spine, internal, external, etc trauma.....it's hurts.Trauma hurts

I got t-boned on the highway and walked away un hurt, guess sometimes ya get lucky. It seems people just want roll bars/cages but dont take the time to look into padding for the bars.. I guess people over look saftey
Glad you were ok B16B_coupe
Theres my crash pics starchland, I'm sure I know which track you are going to lol https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=978258 glad you are thinking about safety

wow glad you walked from that one bud. Last year was my first time hitting the track and I saw 2 people roll their car in 3 events! Usually what happened was what you said about catching the grass, sand trap. Hmm...so do you wear a hans device?
Hmm well it didn't catch the grass or sandtrap it went straight off in a in a ditch or something and flipped end over end. The grass ones are when they get sideways and dig in and go over. It was a very unexpected and unusual one for sure.
I would love a HANS.thats next

guys is there some website or literature where I can read more about what to do to make the track/car safe. IT seems there is alot of questions and guessing which shouldnt be when it comes to safety
