how to install rims
i just bought some low profile tires with rims already mounted, they are 205 40 r17 and i am pretty sure they should fit my 2000 honda civic DX right? after I install the rims do I have to do anything else? my friend said I should get a tire alignment but I thought those were when you got the lowering springs. also wat is the deal with the lugnuts and other things. any help with this would be great, thanks
should you even be tryin to upgrade your car if you dont even kno how to put rims on?? im not tryin to be an *** but sounds liek you need to learn more about cars before you try upgrading. have somone show you how to do it that knos a thing or two about aftermarket wheels so its done safely.
yeah i would recommend a wheel alignment. as for lug nuts different people will recommend different ones. get the ones recommended by the wheel company. make sure you check your torque for the first 100 miles or so. don't want one of those bad boys rollin off.

No it won't, it's not a ******* jeep wrangler...generally when you swap rim sizes on an import (or any "car" for that matter) you adjust the sidewall aspect ratio (the middle number) so it stays the same total diameter, this will make your speedometer stay the same.
OEM Tire Size = 185/65R-14 making a total diameter of 23.46"
His new tire size = 205/40R-17 making a total diameter of 23.45
That's a 0.05% difference in size. So OP: Your speedometer will read 0.033% too fast (0mph).
Now seeing as how '92-'00 honda civic speedometers are nowhere near accurate even to 1mph, 0.033% isn't going to make jack **** of a difference.

@ OP:
As far as the lug nuts go, different rim companies have different angled seats so that when the nut is screwed onto the stud, it lays flat into the rim's lug nut seat. Generally they're all the same, but just buy ones for your (year) Honda Civic from that company for that wheel, this way they'll have the same inside diameter as your head studs (meaning they'll screw on right) as well as sitting flat against the rim once tightened.
Then tighten that **** nice and tight - good 150ft-lbs of tq. or so (my method is usually get them all "snug" - then set it to the 9 o'clock position and yank up a bit (about 130ft-lbs estimated), and don't let any jack-*** helms nut-swinger tell you "but it says in the manual you're only supposed to tighten them to 90ft-lbs of tq." - two things, A) It's not a ferrari, it's not going to throw off the balance or anything, and B) You're a moron that deserves one of the wheels to fall the hell off if you use a torque wrench to put on lug nuts on a 92-'00 daily driver honda civic...rail that expletiveing thing on there nice 'n tight, my friend used to do all mine and tighten that **** to 300ft-lbs of tq. with an impact gun and I never had a problem, so don't let some nutswinger tell you differently. I'm not saying jump on a breaker bar, I'm just saying make it nice 'n snug with a good 12" ratchet and you should be peachy. Though seeing as how aftermarket rims are nowhere near as integral as steelies you may want to take it easy on them (don't use an impact wrench) and just give it a nice tug with a breaker bar or 12" ratchet. Order on a 4 lug setup is bottom, top, left, right (or any "across" pattern), snug in that order again, then go around in any order and give them one last "yank."
As far as the alignment goes? You don't need to get them aligned, but once the tires are put on the rims they do need to be spin balanced. I'm not sure if you bought them pre-balanced or not, I'd have them do it anyways just to make sure you don't get raped on the wear, but you'll feel it on the highway if even one weight if thrown off, but whatever, it's your car. If it was me I'd have them spin balanced before they're put on - if not, just make sure you take it up to 85 or so on the highway and make sure it's not shaking bad (either in the lower part of the seat right above your *** or in the steering wheel) as this would indicate that it's probably off at a typical spin balance speed (60mph).
If you have any more Q's on this **** feel free to shoot me up a PM, I've been dealing with rims/tires more than I care to.

well i got reading though your half a page on such a simple question 80 foot pounds is more then enough to tq each lug nut down nothing more nothing less
as for the types of lug nut you will need for your application the OEM honda lug nuts will need to be changed as depicted in my picture that is accompanied with this post!
as for the problem with speedos ect your right about the speedo on hondas been around 500RPM's off as for the size of rim you choose i feel you should know it will effect your acceleration due to going with a bigger rim will effect your gearing but that a different thread or question

should give you an idea as to whats going on with lug nuts so forth

or is that all you know how to do spout off your mouth with crazy comments that make no sense
