A cookie cutter solution is a solution to a problem that can be applied in many situations without modification, and the phrase is often used pejoratively due to its connotation of "unimaginative" or "simplistic". </TD></TR></TABLE>
Just apply that to a car.

He's right, to some extent.
People don't go out of line, they see whats accepted and whats not, and decide to be like everyone else and get exactly the same things. No one will experiment with different ideas and designs.

Cookie cutter style sucks, but it's impossible to be different. Just about everything has been done. It sucks, but it's the truth. You try to do something new, get on google, and it's been done a million times.
This is all fine and good for anyone that praises the almighty interweb ( no offense folks), but to a guy thats looking at local scenes, this may or may not apply. For example, the non rice honda scene is little lacking on my area. An EG like the ones described above would be hailed as a nice ride, but bashed on the internet. Theres no accounting for taste, so the old adage goes. the moral: this **** moves way too fast to keep and be original all the time. So sell me your rotas and recaros, because style and purpose don't belong together.

I guess that's true. It's just that my local scene is about the same as the internet. Everything has been done around here pretty much. It don't bother me though. I just do what I want to my car. Even know most may disagree.

check out the mark 3 forums on vwvortex if you want to learn more about cookie cutter style. The typical mods around there are: euro bumpers, lowered, BBS wheels, ecode headlights. If you've got a clean car with all those elements, people on there are going to think your amazing.
edit: and im not saying that doesn't look good. thats the thing about cookie cutter styles. The reason so many people rock the same style is because it LOOKS GOOD. I'd rather someone hate on my car because it looks like everyone elses, than because it looks like a piece of ****.
