Default 88 crx si - first time buyer

Hey guys, been doing a lot of reading/searching/lurking, great forum you have here. I just had a few quick questions I was wondering if anyone could help me with.

I'm looking at picking up a 88 crx si w/150k miles as a daily driver for $1300. Quarter panels have some rust but nothing I cant fix with the mig and some time.

I've read the mpg thread on here as well as the .gov ratings and I'm curious if you grandma it what kind of mpg can I expect to get out of this vehicle hwy driving?

I also am confused on mpfi and which models this came on. Benefits to doing the swap power or mpg?

Last question seems really silly, but do these cars have back seats? I'm looked at a ton of photos and it looks like there is but I see them described as two seaters.

Thanks for any help! Really appreciate it.

I bought mine last year for my 90 mile round trip commute to work, (my Z-71 was killing me on gas) and knew of someone selling a CRX . It's a DX model which is the only one that comes with DPFI, the SI and HF both come with MPFI. I converted to MPFI last May and have not noticed a difference in MPG, (I get about 38-40 MPG and about 400 miles to the tank) but I did notice a difference in performance and that is why people swap to MPFI.
The American models are 2 seaters only because of safety issues, but some people get back seats from European or Asian models. I have one in mine, not for show, but every now and then I have to pick my kids up from school or a friends house on my way home, but that is rare and that area is just not safe in these cars, and there isn't much room for feet back there.
I read, searched, and lurked on H-T for a while before I signed up. Searching and reading will give you information on most problems, but you may occasionally need to post a question. Be specific in your title and your question and you will get your answers and soon learn who to listen to and who not to.

I too have an 88 crx si and I get 30mpg just about all the time. Got mine for $1200.

The Si has MPFI and 5 speed tranny.

Moon roof too. But no back seats.

There are alot of differences with the 88 than other years.

And by the way good choice

yours is mpfi, usdm crx's do not have back seats. you can find them at Hmotorsonlone.com if your interested in one. also they get great gas mileage i have a 90 si and i get about 38mpg on the freeway. just browse aroun this site and you will find out that the 88 models have alot of different things on them like where the seat belts are located and such. good find for 1300

My daily commute is 45 miles each way with 27 miles of interstate and about 10 miles of traffic lights on a multilane road. I am regularly getting 38+ mpg from a '90 DX with 180k miles on it.
I wish it had cruise & that the tank was a couple of gallons bigger, but it seems to be a good car to kill with a daily commute.

my 88 si got 38-42 mpg commuting from indianapolis to southern michigan and back...i think the higher than normal peak numbers were because of the elevation changes along the way...and i usually ran nothing slower than 80mph

Yes, all the 2nd Gen CRX have fuel injection, but there are two variations of it and the DX got the "crappy" one. The HF and the Si got the multi-port fuel injection
