Default 1997 Honda Civic Coupe

hey guys, I know absolutely nothing about cars, and I want to make it a JDM beauty.

I'm wanting to start small on workin the performance of my Civic...what are some suggestions to what I can do to make the acceleration smoother and get my acceleration time quicker?

All i know about it is that I got a d-series engine under the hood and it's VTEC...any help?

What is your budget?

Are you going to stay normally aspirated (NA) or will you go the forced induction (FI, turbo or supercharger etc) route?

How many miles are on the engine, and do you think or know if it's been well maintained?

Chances are your engine is a D16Y8 or a D16Y5. I really hope you somehow have a B16A2.

He said it's a D-series. It's also in a '97 (so if it had a B16 it'd have to be a swap). Plus B16A2s are anemic little motors. The only thing they're good for is (1) making a car run and (2) selling to someone who wants an "OMG JDM Si!!!!" engine.

I know. You're very smart about Hondas NOFX, but I am not very stupid (not that you said that).

Fixed ^^^. IMO D16s are anemic little engines.

Excuse me for picking apart you post, it just bugged me a little

Yes, but the B16A isn't that much better as far as performance. 33 more horsepower and 4 more foot pounds of torque over an EX engine?

The best thing about the B16A2 is the transmission.

It is interesting that right after I correct your post, you attempt to correct mine.

So instead of "opinions", here are the actual numbers. You'll see the B16A2 really lags behind the specs of the other B-series engines from the US around that generation. You'll also notice how similar the D-series engines are to the B16A2.

Let me also point out that the major difference is the transmission. An engine isn't tied to it's transmission. Anyone could get an LS engine and put the Si transmission on it for better acceleration.

Not really, happens all the time. In this case it just hit me hard how a lot of people act like their opinion weighs more than anyone else's. I realize that you are an intelligent person, but you are not above being corrected - as am I, even as an "07".

I have driven plenty of Civics with stock D motors (actually I own one) and I have a Civic with a stock B16. IMO the B16 feels much more substantial at any rpm over any stock D motor I have ever operated.

That has a lot to do with the transmission.

There's no need to correct someone on something being an opinion unless I said, "Studies say the B16 is an anemic engine."

OF COURSE it's my opinion! Any intelligent person wouldn't read it any other way.

You really sound like you're pulling at straws right now.
