Default cut springs question

i have tein h-techs on kyb gr-2s, and I don't like the ride height feels just like stock height, so i'm thinking of cutting half a coil all around. anyone done this before on thier same setup....i want to know how it is after cutting the springs by half a coil all around.....open for any opinions and input thank you in advance....

Half a coil wont really affect the height that much. You are probably gonna drop it like 1/4." The biggest mistake people make is cut their springs and keep their stock shocks, making the car ride like crap. GR-2's are considered stock replacements, but they are slightly stiffer so they should be ok if you cut up to a full coil. Just make sure that it is seated properly on the perch.

what were you thinking when buying H-Techs. theyre SUPPOSED to be stock height. not even S techs lower much.

might as well cut your stock springs. im not a hater on cutting springs. if you do it right, it can be fine. you just have to know what youre doing and dont expect much.

How many miles have you done since installing your new suspension setup?

Sometimes springs take time to settle to their natural lowered height.

As for cutting springs, I'd recommend you avoid it altogether if possible. The inherent safety risks and unpredictable handling characteristics outweigh the rewards.

Cut springs are useless.

I picked up a 91 crx cheap that I was going to do a little auto x'ing with. I wanted to keep it cheap, and was planning on buying some bilstiens HD's or Koni's from tire rack and then cutting a coil or two off the stock springs. I was then going to get a used 22mm rear sway bar.

I know an guy who has a road race car with cut springs on it and they seem to do fine.

However, I thought I had read on here that you cannot cut honda springs, and they will not seat in the perch if you do.

Is this true?

Correct. The top-most and bottom-most coil of stock springs are oriented nearly flat so that it seats correctly on the lower perch and top hat. If you cut off coils, the spring will try to tilt when put it on the perch, and could possibly slip out of alignment while driving.

See this pic to see what I mean, this is an Integra and ITR rear spring side-by-side. Notice how the coils at each end go nearly horizontal before coming up at an angle like the rest of the coils do.

As taboo as cutting springs is, I've never had a problem on cut springs.

I've taken 2" off many sets of springs, and they usually always ride better than cheap sleeve coilovers or generic springs.

My 71 C-10 has cut front springs too
