thinking of getting a bike for the dialy commute, new ZX250R?
what do you guys think of the new Kawasaki ZX250R as a good daily commuter. I think it would be great for fuel economy and possibly a second one for a track day thrasher. Something cheap, reliable and relatively fun to ride.
The 1977 Kz750 LTD is too old and finicky to ride every day and the Ducati 748s is, well, a Ducati and far too unreliable/maint. heavy to ride every day in and out and rack miles up on.
I was thinking of purchasing one of these to ride around and possibly tinker with. It is a R platform of which they will be having a race series for and I am sure there will be tons of aftermarket support for.

that is the color I plan on getting, MSRP is $3,699.......cheap as **** for a brand new bike with a warranty.
Im thinking about doing the same... The mileage would be very nice compared to the bike i have now, and i really wouldn't mind having a little 250 to puttputt around town with. Sat on one during the bike show and loved it... still, def a step back as far as power.
If you havn't already, try browsing through this thread:

Can't remember how much actual info is in there... alot of it was pre-release and based alot on speculation

yeah, I'm familiar with that thread
I don't care about the power really. I will be throwing a set of saddlebags on there probably and going back and forth to work and for little road trips
If I want power I have a wheelie monster KZ or a Duc 748s

Its all relative man, if it pays for itself in saved gas, why not. But.. one could pickup something bigger used for the same money. Then again bigger wont get the same mileage.

mileage is only one of the few perks of riding and should not be used as an excuse to purchase a bike. most 600 cc sportbikes get relatively good mileage

seeing as how i've owned one, i would say its worth no more than $1500.</TD></TR></TABLE>
the carbs are kind of a bummer, but one of these w/ proper tires, suspension, brakes would be a lot of fun around a place like pahrump or streets of willow.

Carbs should not be the sticking point for anyone... properly set up there is NO-THING, not one, with carburetors.
how many miles on the 748?
instead of spending 4k on another bike, just ride the 748 and put that towards maintence.

The 748s has a little over 9200 miles on it, I want to keep it as a weekend warrior. I have been riding my KZ750 LTD as a daily but due to its recent issues I am seriously thinking of retiring it to a poker run, show bike and a cruiser for the chopper rides that I go on.....it fits in better with the bunch than the 748s
I have been driving my 1978 Toyota pickup due to the issues with the KZ and I am starting to get agitated with it. I only have 28k miles on the truck and I REALLY REALLY want to keep the mileage down on it. I am NOT liking the miles being put on the truck AT ALL.
I honestly think that the ZX250R with a set of saddlebags would make tghe ultimate commuter bike for the trips to work and for longer rides. I will use the Duc as a mule for the frequent trips that I make to The Tail of The Dragon and Deals Gap and for Blue Ridge Parkway rides and pretty much retire the KZ.

ah cool. You know that makes sense.
cosidering i did the same but with a 916 and a monster lol. dunno why i posted what i did above to tell you the truth
i;d buy a used monster for a daily before i bought the kawi but thats just me

but here is my argument for buying a used anyting over a cheap NEW bike.
It has a warranty
and, there will be loads less maintanence involved. Ducati's are very maint. heavy bikes and I don't want to have to worry about it as much on a bike that I will be racking up miles on. I literally ride about 12-20k miles per year on average. I take tons of road trips and I live a good ways from work. I will DEFINATELY save a lot of sanity by owning a new motorcycle.
I also work about 60hrs a week sometimes more, which is another reason I do not want a Ducati, I just don't have time to maintain it.

If you don't drop a bike, they last forever.
If you have riding experience, a good 03 and up 600 would suit you better in the long run.
Hell, you have experience, why not just pick up a 600 supersport?

the 250 gets 70 mpg. the 250 costs less to insure. the 250 is lighter.
honestly if they find a way to squeeze 10 more hp out of this bike i'm all over it.
