Default 89 Si Distributor Replacement

After having my CRX running beautifully (after replacing some shoddy ignition leads) for around 12 months, it's now throwing up Error 8 and that nasty engine light is on. The car feels like it's running on three cylinders, shaky and weak in the low rev range. It turns out, according to my honda dealership's service guys that I'm in need of a new distributor, which they then quoted around $1500.

So, as you can imagine I'm just about ready to yank one off eBay for a hundred bucks or so and swap it out myself. But first, I have three main questions;

1: Would I (inexperienced in this field) find it easy enough to replace this thing myself? Are there any specific instructions I need to follow?

2: Do I need to buy a distributor specifically for the exact engine model of my CRX? Ie; does a "d16a6" distributor also fit the d16a8? (I've got a DOHC d16a8). I was looking at this.

3: I've read that this problem is commonly caused by a faulty bearing within the distributor (or something like that), would it be a safer bet to replace this, rather than the whole distrib?

Thanks heaps for the help, guys.
