No idea what i'm doing (wheel related)
So, as I enjoy flopping around more than a fish on a pier, i've decieded this week to keep my bike. One of the things I hate about it is the color. Much too blah. I would like to chrome the tank, and do the wheels a nice gloss black. The wheels are spoked, and the spokes need replacement badly. How do I go about getting new wheels built? The rims themselves are in decent condition. Do isent away the entire wheel, have the original rims and hubs powdercoated, and new black powdercoated spokes and nipples installed? Any one know of a source in Virginia to get this done - both powdercoating and building?

Not in va but:

I know a good shop in Va that can do the powdercoating:
http://www.goosecreekfinishing.com/
But you're on your own for building the wheels (and no shops in the area will touch 'em... I had to haul my CB750 wheels to Harrisonburg.

you can lace them yourself as long as you know what your doing... and have a couple specialty tools. Other wise just send them off to be done by a pro. if you want get aluminum rims and spokes... or some double butted
I've built up a bike wheel or two - but that was with a friend guiding me, who already measured ands sent out for spokes. I would feel much better if a shop built these, I think.
RJ, glad you answered. On your Cb, did you reuse all parts, or order out new spokes? Are spoke lengths pretty well known, or will I/shop have to measure current wheels to find proper lengths for the new spokes?

I re-used the rims and had them powdercoated by the Goose Creek place - really nice guy, does the work out of a shop at his house - the hubs I cleaned, scrubbed, and hit them with #00 steel wool - then painted them with engine enamel. Spokes were new from http://partsnmore.com/

Have you tried Bike Bandit?
You could just send them both off to the place in NJ and just let them sort it all out

If I build another set of wheels, thats what I'm doing.
I spent entirely too much time and money on the CB750 wheels. They're done now and I dont even want to think about it.

Interesting.
What are you doing with the frame/swingarm? Leave it black?

Yeah, pretty much. Going for the late 50's Velocette cafe look - something that you had to work on to push a ton.
I also might try and just polish the current tank and clear it - not sure how well that will work, though. Painting the side panels and tail black.
