So i have been saving up for this swap for a couple of months and now everything is together and ready to be built, so i thought i would share it with everyone.


My 99 Civic Si


All The new goods.
-Buddy club spec 4 cams.
-Buddy club adjustable cam gears.
-Supertech Valve springs.
-Skunk2 TI retainers.
-Skunk2 intake Manifold.

the first day i removed the valve cover, Intake, strut bar and the exhaust cam. not much at all done.




It's a little slow going but High school and work will do that.
I'll post more updates soon as i get more done.

The lip was painted to match but it looks off color in photos for some reason

 

ok so we got a little bit more done tonight.

we removed the other cam so both are now out.




Then we started to remove the springs but ran into a little problem..

This compresser dose not work cause it is to big for the B series. so we thought we should make something to get the springs compressed so we could get the keeps out.




So we made a compresser out of a bent pair of handle bars i had laying around my garage and just grinded out a space to get the keepers off. ( sorry for the bad picture of it.)

We got the stock spring off and now we have to put the super tech springs in. Anyone have any ideas on how we can compress the springs and not push the valve down cause thats what it is doing with our rig.

Two things:

1) Mac Tools (I think, maybe its snap on, I'll have to look in the garage) makes a tool that has a business end that looks almost like your handlebars to compress the springs... Great minds and all of that...

2) If you pull the plugs (don't drop the valves in) and feed a boat load of string/twine/thin rope into the chamber from the plug hole on each cylinder while it is at TDC, you can keep the valves fairly well supported (its still a PITA, obviously keep the free end of the string accessible so you can get it back out).

 

we have it at tdc but the valve still moves a tad bit. it just seems like the retainer wants to push the valve down that tad bit when we try to compress the spring to put the keepers back on.

 

to keep your valves in they have a little valve that screws into your sparkplug port, then you fill the cylinder full of air, to keep the valve up. most autoparts stores will know what your talkin about

 

today started a new idea for the swap.

Remove the head to make putting the valve springs & the new intake manifold on easier. This will also allow me to work inside my house instead of in the unheated garage which will be very nice!

We should be removing it Saturday and im going to get a different compressor for the springs & try to put them by Saturday or Sunday night.

A cheap alternative for the spring compressor is a vice and zip ties. It works really well and if you already have a vice the zip ties are dirt cheap.

First just compress the spring in the vice then put one zip tie on one side. Then put another zip tie on the opposite side of the first one. Make sure they are tight then remove the spring from the vice. Install in the head, when your ready cut the zip ties pull out the left over and your good to go. Good luck.

We tired the zip ties but since the Super Tech springs are dual springs they like to break the zip ties when you loosen the vice

 

Ok well I removed my head this week.
My head is at Stewart Engines here in indy since we where having trouble finding a spring compressor that worked with the B-series head. They will be installing my new valve Supertech springs, skunk2 ti Retainers and new valve seals along with cleaning up the head.


I should be getting my head back by Tuesday, so Saturday or Sunday we'll start to put it all back together.
