How well does a stock crx hf tranny hold up?
Post is for a friend he bought a 91 crx hf..stock he's putting a z6 motor in it and boosting it, he wanted to no how well the stock trans out of the crx will hold up..he doesnt want to have to convert anything to hydro trans....he's going to be running stock internals with a junk yard turbo setup...8psi...thanks for the info in advance
it'll hold BUT the gearing is horrid, he'd see a huge gain on a dx zc or si cable tranny. HFs gearing is long as all get out, you don't want it unless you want milage then you wouldn't be boosting it.

Speakin of D-series transmissions vs B-series transmissions, the gearing of an LS transmission is actually about the same as the gearing of an SI D-series transmission.
How bad is the gearing in the HF tranny? Well a buddy of mine had a HF CRX and ran it at the drag strip just to see what it would do. He ran a 19.2 and only shifted 1 time. Went from first to second and never got up to redline in second gear before he went across the finish line. Get a DX or Si trann, anything is better than the HF.
You may want to keep that HF in the corner of the garage though. If gas gets too much higher you may need to put it back in.
