How well does a stock crx hf tranny hold up?

Default How well does a stock crx hf tranny hold up?

Post is for a friend he bought a 91 crx hf..stock he's putting a z6 motor in it and boosting it, he wanted to no how well the stock trans out of the crx will hold up..he doesnt want to have to convert anything to hydro trans....he's going to be running stock internals with a junk yard turbo setup...8psi...thanks for the info in advance

it'll hold BUT the gearing is horrid, he'd see a huge gain on a dx zc or si cable tranny. HFs gearing is long as all get out, you don't want it unless you want milage then you wouldn't be boosting it.

yes, the hf tranny's suck ditch it for a si one and you will be happy even with the turbo it will be bad.

is the hf trans compared to the ls trans of a bseries??im a b series guy i dont know alot about d series...if he decides to go with a vitara setup with this trans be beter or is it still to long?? thanks for all the info

You don't want anything to do with the HF trans unless you are going for MPG. That is ALL it is good for.

B series and D series are totally different worlds. you can not mate a DOHC head on a sohc block and so on.

yes i know this...i was simply comparing them, to one another

.ok i guess hes just going to have to get a si trans or somthing better than the hf....thanks for the quick info

Speakin of D-series transmissions vs B-series transmissions, the gearing of an LS transmission is actually about the same as the gearing of an SI D-series transmission.

How bad is the gearing in the HF tranny? Well a buddy of mine had a HF CRX and ran it at the drag strip just to see what it would do. He ran a 19.2 and only shifted 1 time. Went from first to second and never got up to redline in second gear before he went across the finish line. Get a DX or Si trann, anything is better than the HF.

You may want to keep that HF in the corner of the garage though. If gas gets too much higher you may need to put it back in.

i want a hf tranny ill i got a si tranny to get rid of lol it needs some work tho rear mounts bolts got striped out at the track need coils to fill the broke threads but other then that its in good shape
