Questions on upgrading my '88 CRX HFs brakes
I have to go through my brake system soon, and thought that it would be an excellent time to upgrade what is there.
What does it take to go from the 9.1" rotors to the 9.5" rotors up front? Will the 13" rims I currently have clear them? I'll be going to 15" rims soon but probably not until after the brake work.
What does it take to go from drums to disc in the rear?
I found this: <TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by justseeingifitistaken »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">BTW for the guy asking about the 88 struts...you will either have to replace them or find rear trailing arms that are the same setup for the struts with a bolt through and not the fork over. 90-91 CRXsi/Civic si trailing arms use that different mounting.
</TD></TR></TABLE>
What does that mean for me, since I have an '88 CRX?
What do I need to change under the hood? Would a new MC/Prop Valve from a '91 CRX Si with rear discs bolt up to my booster? Could I leave what is under there now and run it with the modifications and just change it later? What if I removed the prop-valve, hard-lined the front brakes, and put an adjustable prop-valve on the rear brakes?
Lastly, who makes good, quality components for these parts. Mainly, the rotors, pads, and calipers. I won't be needing fancy race parts, drilled, slotted, etc. I just want good-quality OEM replacement parts (OEM for a 91 CRX Si, anyhow) at a decent price.

The 88-89 crx rear struts go into the tailer arm slot hole and is bolted inside the arm. The 90-91 crx rear struts are bolted around the rear trailering arm. And they are equipped with rear disc brakes.
heres a page of all four disc brakes

I'm looking at my Haynes and it doesn't show there being any struts in the rear suspension at all. Do you (and the person I quoted) mean the shocks? If so, that's no big deal as long as they still bolt to the body the same way. It needs new ones anyhow
I can't access the CRX Resourses website. I'm not a member and since they don't allow people to register with aol or hotmail e-mail accounts I can't become a member
--edit-- Nevermind about the CRX Resources website thing, I bypassed their "security" --edit--

for 9.5" brakes you need either Si or 90-91 dx knuckles, caliper brakets and calipers. the bigger caliper bracket will not bolt onto the HF knuckle thats why you need different knuckles. And when you change knuckles you will also need Dx or Si axles because of the different spline count on the outer hub.
88 ED models use a different type LCA in the rear than the 89-91's so the struts mount differently. just use '88 struts or swap you LCA's out for the Newer style.

Actually, DX/SI rotors and calipers WILL bolt onto HF knuckles. This is the stock setup on the Civic STD.

Can anyone else confirm or deny this? Can I just go out and buy a 9.5 rotor and caliper and bolt it right up?

Isn't the trailing arm the piece the hub is connected to?
And that means the lower control arm is the one that bolts, perpendicular into the trailing arm (it trails the car)?
And all you need is to swap out the lower control arms, 88-91 will all bolt up to the same trailing arm.

I'm using this write-up for the rear disc swap:

I already bought '93 Integra trailing arms. They came with all the control arms attached. The driver's side also has the brake components on it, while the passenger side is missing all the brake components and even the spindle. What other vehicles will have compatible parts for this? I need to find a new spindle and mud gaurd to re-use and at least a caliper to turn in for a core charge.
