staggerd for autocross...thoughts..
..well I had the opportunity last year to participate in 4 local autocrosses and i gotta say, Im hooked. I spent the time going about the whole process right, buying a nice helmet, upgrading my brakes and lines, and getting a different set of wheels for when i compete, ect. Previously i was running a set of 16" steelies and some cheap hankook tires. Well now i wanted to step it up a lil, while still on a budget. I am planning on picking up a set of 16" rsx wheels locally for a great price ($ 150 for a set of 4 ) and wrapping them in some Falken Azenis. Now I was planning to do 225/50/16 in the front and 205's in the rear. What are some thoughts on this? I know typically staggered is the way to go on FR platforms but I don't really hear much about people running staggered on FF platforms..thoughs?
After just four autocrosses, just run the same size all around. Don't bother with stagger, as you still need more seat time just to know what the car does now, let alone trying to promote over steer and such anyways...
My best piece of advice is keeping the setup simple for now, don't try and go over your head with "ideas"...Oh that and have some fun!

im with him ^^^ on this one. i tried some "ideas" on my first outing to the auto-x's. i went with 150 tread wear, shaved, ra1's (225-50-15) on the front, and 400 tread wear 195-50-15 crappy street tires in the rear. this was all on a gutted civic hatch!!!! if you want more rotation, thats how you do it!@!!
i spent the majority of that day spinning off course and crushing cones, after a few rear strut adjustments it was a little less touchy and a shitpile of fun!!
drive more and learn some good techniques and you can accomplish more than you think. once YOU can outdrive the CAR, then fine tune with tires, suspension settings, etc. but dont forget to do one at a time and adjust your driving accordingly (outdrive every mod before the next)
good luck and have fun.
