Default D15B Vtec into 98 DX Help!!!!

I got a 98 civic dx. My boy let me hold his spare motor which is a JDM D15B. It has the two vtec solenoids, with a 2-pin vtec plug. I read somewhere that one wire controls the vtec-e mode and the other controls "regular" vtec. I have a ex engine harness and it has the standard 1-pin plug. My question is, would the vtec work normally if I join the two wires off of the solenoid and plug it into the harness or could I join one wire to the harness and run the other one to a switch? By the way, I'm using an obd2a ex ecu. Thanks in advance guys.
