I have a '95 DX. The slide lever that controls the temperature setting is messed up. At first it would only stay in the middle. If I tried to slide it right or left it didn't want to move. The AC would blow cold, but I had no heat.

After playing with the heat valve under the hood, I am now able to move the switch all the way to hot, but it will only move slightly left of center and won't go all the way to cold. Meanwhile, I still have cold ac, but barely any heat even with the lever all the way to hot. I have played around with the levers and cables under the dash, but it doesn't seem to help.

Anyone else had this problem and know how to fix it? Thanks!

 

since that is purely a mechanical lever it has to be something with the adjustment of the cable or the clamp sliding on the end of it.
part of your blower/air system may be jammed. pull the top vent and dash vents and take a look in there.

 

Well, I figured it out. I'll explain what it was in case anyone else has the same problem.

The temp. control lever has a wire attached to the back of it that goes down to the switch under the dash on the passenger side. On my car, this wire was bent. While I was digging around, I also noticed that the gray trim piece that goes around the steering wheel and climate control and stereo had been busted out at one time, and was now rigged in place with metal strips and screws. I think that the stereo was stolen out of this car at one time. The thief ripped out the trim piece and ripped out the stereo. When he did this, the top of the stereo box snagged that temp. control cable and bent it.

Now that it is bent, the lever won't move very well, and when it does move it is just bending and stretching that kink in the wire. Unfortunately, I can't seem to straigten the wire out. If it has even the slightest bend in it, it won't work. So now I just have to reach under the dash to change the temp.
