advanced or retarted timing?
checked on friends D15b7 and on TDC (crankshaft) the crank pulley "mark" is about 1/2 an inch to the left of the mark, standing at the drivers side of the car. is that advanced or retarded timing?
also whats the advantages of both and will there be damage caused by this since its off by 1 tooth.

Then it was not on TDC when you checked it. that crank pully can only go on one way, Woodruft key ftw.
for your question about advancing timing.

no i meant that the cam gear was set at TDC, and the cramk pully was about 1/2 an inch to the left of the tdc's mark.
if we put the crank pully to the tdc mark, the cam gear would be off about 1/4 inches to the left of the mark.
im just not sure if thats advanced of retarted

that would be retarted i think.
Why would you do that? the belt is off a few teeth. line that up and put the belt on right. if you want Cam timing get cam gears.
but really its a D15B7 your not gaining anything for that, in fact your losing big time.

my friend driven it like that for a year, the previous owner did a t belt change. i was doing a valve adjustment and noticed that
if it doesnt cause earlier engine wear, my friend said just leave it alone. he is pretty broke
