Need help! Car won't stay on...
I've got a 00 civic si and it won't hold its idle. The car turns on and everything, but the moment it does, the car dies. I was told that it might be the IAC, but I'm not sure. Oh, and this only happens in cold weather. Any help would be great. Thanks.
yea, i'll definitely check that out. but wouldn't the car have trouble starting or not start at all if the spark plugs were bad? the car starts up fine, but dies right away when its cold and idles really low when its warm.
Do you have a e-light on? while cranking or when it dies?
maybe a ignitor, plugs, coil, Remove your cap/rotor and check out your coil/ignitor for burn marks.
He is getting spark or the car wouldnt start then die... its just how good of spark he is getting
02-031 is a service recall at honda for ignition switch.
Electrical contacts in the ignition switch can wear
prematurely due to high electrical current passing
through the switch. Worn out ignition contacts could
cause the engine to stall without warning.
call your honda dealer and read them your vin.. that may be the problem to

not necessarily. There could be enough spark to start it but just not enough to let it run well. that could happen if say the mixture was too lean or something. I really think that it's your spark, and if that is the case check your map sensor, because if it's bad it could make your mixture too lean, or too much combustion, which would cause your plugs to go bad but still be getting enough spark to start. I actually just had that problem with my civic. also make sure your dizzy is good. But i don't think that is the problem.

so it fires up on its own your not boosting it to start....
then when it finally does fire up it shuts off after how long...
that sounds to me like the computer doesnt like what it sees, if you have fuel pressure and spark and no injector Pulse try un Plugging things Iac, Tps etc.

what happens if you give it some gas when you start it up? if you give it some more rpms will it stay on? some honda have a tendency to need more power in cold weather so it could be as simple as adjusting your idle control.
I had a integra that would do the same start up the n die after weeks of checking everything I could it ended up being the cat was so clogged the car could not run. So just to rule that out you may want to unbolt the cat see if it helps.
Is the Check Engine light on? If so, read the trouble codes.
If not, my hunch is that you have weak spark or a bad ignition switch based on what you have described. When was the car last tuned up, and how many miles are on it? I'd start with a new distributor cap & rotor.
