Default h22 PS Pump (Searched)

Hey, my friend just bought a 5th gen with a h22 in it and the car didnt come with power steering. He wanted to add it back on so i was wondering if you can just use the accord pump. I was pretty sure you could but just double checking. Thanks

I just finished adding PS to my h22 swap.

Accord line
Accord pump
I used a 405 belt, though a 410 probably would work better.

97+ BASE MODEL Prelude PS Bracket
(honda doesn't make them anymore, good luck finding one, took me months)

So just to be clear;
I'll need:
-Accord lines
-Accord pump
-410 Belt
-5th gen prelude bracket
-Good installation

Sound right or is there anything I'm missing?

That's all right, but the bracket is INCREDIBLY specific lol.

97+ Base Model Prelude PS Bracket

SH won't work, h23 won't work, f series won't work, etc just that base model

Everything from the accord except for the bracket and the belt is from some random car lol.

I used my f22b1 5th gen accord ps bracket, ps pump and line. You have to use some washer to make it work and it does not look nice, the prelude bracket is the right way to do it.

Yeah youre right, they dont have it in stock because it has to be back ordered. after seeing this thread I got worried about the reliability of the source. first thing i did when i got to work today is go the Honda assistant parts manager at my work place and have him check it for me. He said that the part number is good so Honda still supply the bracket you just have to wait a little while if you want it. btw part number for just the bracket is 56994-P5M-000. I forgot to ask about all the other hardware because I was getting super worried.

Yeah it's on backorder with no ETA, ie it could be 1 week or it could be 3 years.

Honda having my money without a guarantee on the part wasn't too good of a thought so I looked elsewhere.

Not to mention it can be had for cheaper, just check out craigslist for parted out ludes, the lude fs forum (where I got mine) or local junkyards.

blank, I"m curious to see how you did that? My experience was the arm hit the hood of the car and the rear of the bracket didn't line up correctly with the motor.

I did get quite close with cutting up the backside of an H23 bracket, but still wasn't any good. The 97 Base bracket though bolted right up.

you said on the previous post that honda doesnt make them anymore it scared the hell out of me because i was gonna buy one eventually instead of keeping the custom bracket that someone made for me. where I live, its like finding gold if I could even find a honda that is intact with the parts that i wanted, I wouldnt mind the wait until honda get a fresh supply. At least this issue is cleared up and still give people hope that they too can still and be guaranteed the part if they order it through their local honda dealer if they are willing to wait even if its 1+ month. Im not pointing fingers but just assuring that nobody lose hope if they want to go through this route.

I do have a question for TheMuffinMan,

so if its true that you can use the existing 94-97 pump and pressure hose with the 97+ bracket. If that's the case then Im gonna give up on finding the 97 base prelude steering pump, I found a source that said to use the 97 base pump. how about mounting hardware? did you have to buy custom bolts or did you reuse the prelude or accord ones? can you make a very detailed list of what parts are needed from each car to achieve what you have accomplished. please?

Yep I'll list it right here for you:

Accord Parts (reuse)
1) Power Steering Rack
2) Power Steering Line
3) Power Steering Pump
4) Power Steering Reservoir
5) 3 bolts for bracket
6) 2 bolts for bolting the pump to the bracket (two long ones w/ nuts)

Prelude Parts
1) 97+ BASE Model Power Steering bracket
- this one does NOT have the arm like the stock f22/h23 one, I thought it was incorrect at first but it is the correct bracket

Misc Parts
1) 410 sized belt (3 grooves)

That was all the parts I used for my 5th gen w/ 92-95 JDM H22A

Essentially use EVERY part from an Accord except the bracket and belt.

And yeah the part is Backordered through Honda with no ETA, so there's no guarantee when it will be made again. If you can find a trashed lude you could snag it for cheap.

I'll try to take a picture of my setup Wednesday (going for a small photoshoot) and I'll label the parts

I went to parts department at work today and ordered the bracket, this 97 base model Prelude PS bracket is on National Back Order. There definitly is going to be X amount of time. I asked one of the staff as to how long was their longest wait, he told me the longest national back order he ever had was 1 year. Being that this is a car thats only 10 years old at most I doubt I'll be waiting a year but In the mean time I'll work on rebuilding a used PS Pump I bought and wait till the time comes to install it along with the bracket.

you can reuse all the accord components with the exception of the bracket which should come from a base, honda parts heaven on egay had one and they wanted 60 bucks for it, hit them up. You can also use the prelude pulley on the new setup and get a litttle underdrive affect if you so desire. I did this and reused the prelude belt as well. splicing the lines is so un-oem so go the high road on this one.

Sorry to bring this back from the dead but I just wanted to clarify.

I'm a PS noob but am mechanically inclined so what exactly part to part is needed? And what do you have to do to install it?

And BTW, if you go on preludepower.com or preludezone.com, you can find some people that are parting out ludes and get the bracket from them. It look me 1 day to find mine lol and I got it for 30+shipping from a dude parting out a Prelude base on preludepower.com

Another question, did you attach the lines to the VSS?

Bump for some answers!

I just ordered everything needed for P/S to work and had few questions.

On mitchell, it said bleed air out of system, how would you do that?

And I'm having problem figuring out where the lines from the VSS plug into.

Any help would be appreciated!

I can tell you the bleeding, I would imagine it's similar to the swapping out the fluid and it was a pain for me at least. There's a thicker hose running to the reservoir undo the little clamp and take it off (this is the fill line). Also helps to have like 2 people doing this with you too. I tried with just my dad who's not the best when it comes to cars haha.

What you want to do is with that line off, add fluid up until the bottom of the full pipe(otherwise it'll just pour out) and turn on the car, it'll immediately start sucking the fluid into the system. Have one person continually adding Honda PS fluid into the tank while another slowly turns the steering wheel from lock to lock. When fluid starts pouring out of the fill line in your hand wait a little bit longer for bubbles to get out and then reattach it to the tank. Top off the fluid and do a few more lock to lock.

You should be good after that.

The car should have a stock VSS cable with it it's possible that it got tucked away or cut off though, I'll see if I can snag the cable colors.

Thanks man! Ya I was looking for the 2 hoses that came out of the VSS because I heard they were for the VSS but if there's a cable I won't need that correct?
