Can i rebuild the engine while it is still attached to the car?
Can i rebuild the engine while it is still attached to the car? just some pistons upgrade and cams, timing belt and water pump.
or i have to take the whole engine out ? thanks

Yes it can be done.
You can replace rod bearings, pistons, rings, do a surface hone on cylinder walls, rebuild the head (once removed of course) all while the engine is still in the car.
Hell the techs at my shop have also done main bearings while then engine was still in the car.
Belts and waterpump jobs are done daily here at my shop without coming close to remove the engine.

it CAN be done but wouldnt be my first choice for working on a bottom end. i want to be able to get that part of the motor done where i can see well and i wont have any second thoughts on how well i did it upside down.
as for cams and head work that is done with the motor in the car more often then not.

Spin the crankshaft over. It requires finesse.

I personally would not do it, but sometimes mechanics do stuff just to prove it can be done. Boredom and the ability to say "I told you so" is amazing sometimes.

That and its soo damn nice to get paid for a motor R&R when you don't have to take it out!!!
